This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Given the general success of superhero media right now, particularly "darker" takes on the genre this might be the right time for Wildcards. Martin's name carries some popular weight as well.

Democracy, meh? (538)

"The salient fact of American politics is that there are fifty to seventy million voters each of whom will volunteer to live, with his family, in a cardboard box under an overpass, and cook sparrows on an old curtain rod, if someone would only guarantee that the black, gay, Hispanic, liberal, whatever, in the next box over doesn’t even have a curtain rod, or a sparrow to put on it."

That makes a lot of sense really.  Wild Cards is the series that made me hate George RR Martin so much that I refuse to read or watch Game of Thrones.  But in this time of supermania and with Game of Thrones being so big, it's a no brainer.

What specifically did you not like about it? I am just curious because I was thinking of checking it out after learning about the premise, but would like to hear what others who have read it think about it before I make the time investment.

All told, Martin's schtick is to always go there.  Want a sympathetic character to be gang banged to death, Martin's your man.  Want the villain to slit a prostitute's throat and fuck her in it?  He's your guy.  Yeah, you can keep him.
