I spent two years as a removal man for a mental health charity that helped patients reintergrate into the community. Lugging fridge freezers up six flights of stairs was enough for me to realise that good, honest toil is likely to result in premature death if you do it long enough.

'And it were proper work in them days. None of that fancy minimum wage nonsense. Twelve hours a day of sprained muscles, bleeding knuckles and all for a few pennies. And we were grateful for it!' :D

I'm a former corporate lawyer who got sick of having a psycho for a boss and writing memos that no one ever read so I gave it up for private practice.  The money is about the same but now I get to have a liquor cabinet in my office!
I'm not sure if what I do is social science but what the hell!
