Okay ...after all this election silliness I seem to remember a LEGION OF SUPER HEROES story arc where the mother of one of the main characters would up being President of Earth.
This might have  been back in the '80s during or just after the Keith Giffen run on the series (the 1st time he was connected , I believe)

Pretty sure it was Colossal Boy's mother....also the candidates had less than 2 or 3 days to campaign - because long campaigns had been abolished decades or centuries ago.

Could you imagine such a thing today ?

 Candidates would have less than a week to convince people that they might do a good job as President? - Be amusingly interesting.
