This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

This is mostly just a heads up but I'd be lying if I didn't find this shocking.
If you have3 watched anime in the last roughly 40 years theres a good chance you have watched something they have worked on if you have watched in the last 10 you've likely watched one of there shows.
From clannad and full metal panic to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and lucky start these people have made some fantastically quality shows.

It's really sad. I hope that asshole burns in hell.

What's also bad are all the weebs on reddit and elsewhere saying they are watching KyoAni shows now. They get easy internet points and I'm willing to bet 99% of them pirated the shows.

The media has done a poor job explaining the significant of this tragedy.

I'm cool with people now discovering Kyoto Animation's works. Often, deaths and tragedies are the reason for people to discover a new work, author or genre. Happens lots when a musician dies.

Of course, a certain number of people will just pirate the works, but there are lots of streaming options today and even if they pirate one, its possible they might become paying fans down the line.

But yeah, that murderer deserves to burn.

Damn.

Kyoto Animation did K-On!, one of my favorite shows of the last decade.

Very sad.

I think the only thing I've seen from KyoAni is A Silent Voice, but that's probably my favorite anime movie of all time. As horribly tragic as the attack is, the one bright spot is that it seems to be shining a light on just how underpaid and overworked animators are in Japan. So maybe some small bit of good can come out of this tragedy and the lives that were lost.

It's a tragedy even if none of those people created anything we've ever seen.  The value of a life isn't measured solely in how it directly affects me.
When I say objectively, I mean \'subjectively\'.  When I say literally, I mean \'figuratively\'.
And when I say that you are a horse\'s ass, I mean that the objective truth is that you are a literal horse\'s ass.

There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all. - Peter Drucker

Agreed. I'm unhappy people had to die, but I don't care a bit about an anime studio burning beyond the fact that people died.
