This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Like it says really.  I haven't seen either, I understand the original is not so good but that the director's cut is far better.  Is that correct?  I own the original, I bought it on budget to steal ideas from since Ridley Scott can do good battles even on a bad day, but if the director's cut is actually a good movie (which I understand, possibly wrongly, the original isn't) then perhaps I should be looking for that instead.

Thoughts?

Both versions are pretty good. I still prefer Gladiator to both of 'em, but that's what you get when you replace Russell Crowe with Orlando Bloom.

The director's cut goes into some details a bit more and gives the main characters some levels before the game actually starts. Erm, I meant it creates some exposition for the main protagonist which makes the whole story more believeable.

Yes, pretty good battles, trebuchets, veiled women and Ed Norton finally gets the leprosy he deserves.

Not to thredcrap or anything, but I found it unbearably boring. The cinamatography/color pallet used nearly slowed my heart to a stop. I am really sensitive to such things, though, so my opinion might not be worht a shit.
Sorry.

How did you like previous Scott flicks, Aos? He's rather peculiar with the lighting and colors most of the time...

I loved his early stuff, the Duelists, Blade Runner, and Alien ect... but his Christopher Columbus movie is actually the first and only movie that put me to sleep in the theatre. the pallet in all the early movies is a bit subdued- not so much in the duelists, though, but there is a tension in Blade Runner and in Aliens that held me. I didn't find that tension in KOH. I liked Galdiator well enough at the time, but after seeing it again, I kind of feel that Sparticus does a much better job with many of the same themes. There is no shame, however, in being bested by Kubrick.
I am a picky over analytical bitch, though, so take all this with a grain of salt.

I don't know how the movie ended because I grew so bored in the first half hour that I deleted the flick, and never watched it again.

I keep wanting to down load it again and watch it, but I don't think I will.
