Me, I liked The Terminator just fine, what with its grainy, rough look and its high concept, but wasn't so hot on the slicker, shinier sequel. So...let's keep an eye out!

A (partly) live-action adaptation of Gunnm (retitled "Battle Angel Alita" for the states ... yeah, I can be a snob)?
That's really hard. I mean, just for starters, there's an active kung-fu fight sequence by a cyborg girl who's had three of her limbs torn straight off. How the fuck do you film that?
I tend to agree with Cameron's statement that he's attempting something that, if it works, will redefine what people think is possible in the cinema. And ... I mean ... he's not a hack. If he thinks there's a chance he'll succeed, that's very good news. We live in interesting times.
About damn time. He's only been planning that Gunnm movie for eight years or so...

Wow, groovy. I thought I was the only one who didn't like T2 as much as The Terminator. Bad mirror face make-up fx shot and all.
I thought T2 was pretty good but obviously not the same caliber as the original. I think it was a function of the times more than anything else though.
I mean, look:

They've all got that "look" and edgy feel.

The Battle Angel propertey has been in his hands for a while now. Viz leaked it at a few conventions back a few years. Personally I can't wait to see how he does it. It has the potential to be really damn cool... or really damn bad.
Wow, I'm shocked to see the dearth of T2 love out here. :)
I've always had a soft spot in my heart for T2, beginning when I saw it opening night all those years ago. I've no doubt that it's not the best action SF ever (it's surpassed pretty handily by stuff like Predator and Aliens,) but I feel that it's one of the rare sequels that managed to surpass the original (See also Universal Soldier: The Return. [No, not really.])
HEY DOC: Did you ever read the Alita comics? It's pretty epic stuff: Gally (aka Alita) starts out as the foster daughter of a street doc/bounty hunter, quickly takes up bounty hunting herself, becomes a cybernetic NASCAR driver, fights as a merc for Earth's orbital overlords, joins a rebel army and finds True Love with a man named after a wrestling move.
Then there is the sequel. :)
Alita is, hands down, one of the best comics out there.

Huh. I've read it, but wasn't able to muster the same level of enthusiasm in ranking it. I'd say it was good, and maybe even in the top 1000 pieces of comic and manga work out there, maybe even way up there-but not the best.

Maybe it's rosy memories, but I fell utterly loved the comic when I read it years ago. All the story's elements seemed to "click" perfectly into place.
That, and the feeling that I could run a SR campaign with it. ;)

I can dig that. I feel the same way about the Dark Knight Returns. I never get tired of that book.
