Wooo!!! :haw:
-
Wooo!!! :haw:
I'm telling you, I've been watching and/or listening to the race since I was a little kid, and this year has a feeling about it that just absolutely electric. It's a gorgeous day, CART and IndyCar are re-united, and there's just such a sense of anticipation out there today. There's a feeling that a darker period is over, and the Indy 500 is back with a vengeance. The years of history behind it, the families, the legacies, the tradition, the memories, the favorites and the underdogs--it's all right here, and ready to go.
In other words, VROOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!! :D
-
I'm telling you, I've been watching and/or listening to the race since I was a little kid, and this year has a feeling about it that just absolutely electric.
I used to watch a ton of F1 and Indy car when I was a kid with my Dad. I haven't really taken the time to watch as much since I left home... (some Nascar and some Dakar Rally -- FTW!!!1!)
But today I'm sitting on the couch with my son and we're waiting for the race to start. :)
Vroooooom!!!!
-
On the radio, they're interviewing David Letterman, who is revealing he and Danica Patrick are deeply in love. He's partial owner of the Alex Lloyd and Ryan Hunter-Rheay entries (#16 & 17 cars).
Jim Nabors is excited to be here. I imagine most days, he's excited to be anywhere. He will be belting out "Back Home Again In Indiana" shortly, which, surprisingly, is NOT our official state song.
Stuart, that is so cool. That warms me to no end. I hope you guys enjoy. :)
-
What the hell is our state song? I'm betting it's either something by Hoagy Carmichael, or, like, "You Can't Rollerskate In A Buffalo Herd" or something.
-
This. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Banks_of_the_Wabash,_Far_Away) :what: Paul Dresser. I thought Hoagy or Cole Porter.
Seriously, no one knows that song, even in Indiana.

Nuts to that, man. It should be "The Raiders March" by John Williams.

Hells yeah!

Here's a design-your-race-car-paint-scheme (http://www.indy500.com/community/designit/view/latest?utm_source=designit&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=frontpage), if you're bored. I fully expect to see a GURPS, Traveller, or D&D entry shortly.
-
Florence Henderson is singing "God Bless America".
Few, if any, know precisely why this is so, but it is.
-
Everyone seems thrilled and expectant today--its a "new era", as they said on the radio. Lines were longer than normal, and the crowds are into it even moreso than usual.
No rain predicted. 72 degrees local, 94 on the track. Just a gorgeous day.
Julianne Hough, from Dancing With The Stars is singing the National Anthem. Now, there will be a military flyover when she finishes, and the timing for that is something most folks don't take into consideration, but it has to be PERFECT, to come in right at the end.
EDIT: And they nailed it.
-
http://www.indycar.com/ (http://www.indycar.com/) supposedly has a good race tracker. I haven't used this one. We'll see.
-
ENTER JIM NABORS!!!!
-
Ladies & Gentlemen....
START YOUR ENGINES!!!!
ROOOOOAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

I'm woring on one but we're leaving now. :( Tonight?
-
I'm woring on one but we're leaving now. :( Tonight?
Totally!:)
-
Wheldon has taken the lead through 7/8--
then Dixon, Tony Kanaan, and a surprsing THomas Scheckter moves into 4th! Briscoe is in 5th, then Helio, then Danica, then Marco Andretti!
-
Quick yellow flag--Bruno Junqueira had a mirror fall off.
I think something like this happened last year--everyone pits, makes a quick adjustment and is back out.
-
lol--Bruno Junqueira stayed out, I think just to be first for a lap or two as much as anything. He will have to go in to reattach that mirror, I'm almost certain of it.
-
Sarah Fisher spun, and is being towed into the pits. She should be just fine and back out soon.
Bruno Junqueira is in getting his mirror back on.
Thank goodness its under yellow. You dont win the race in the first laps.
With a roar, Sarah Fischer is back out!
Buddy Rice is leading on the current caution lap! (Not for long, but he's a former winner. Good to see him out there). Justin Wilson is #2, but neither went to the pits.
-
Yeah -- Buddy Rice takes the lead. :)
-
Yeah -- Buddy Rice takes the lead. :)
That was cool.
Justin Wilson is running strong!!!
Rice is hanging in there, though--he doesn't have the fastest car, but he can definitely drive.
-
That was cool.
Justin Wilson is running strong!!!
Huzzah!
Has it finished yet?
-
Wheldon and Dixon are the class of the field so far--pulling away a bit.
-
Wow! Justin Wilson just reeled 'em in!
He and Buddy Rice will have to pit soon--they need to pray for a yellow flag.
-
Yep, WIlson and Rice pit. They'll drop some spots, both good runs so far for both--neither were considering front-runners, but they've looked good.
Danica has jumped up to 7th!
Ed Carpenter is 8th!!
-
Ryan Briscoe's car had a bad vibration, had to pit. He's dropped back to 31st momentarily.
CONTACT!!!!
Graham Rahal, has nailed the wall on Lap 37.
Caution/yellow is out. I'm surprised no one else got tagged.
That's a bummer.
-
Justin Wilson is running strong!!!
-
(http://bizarrerecords.com/galleries/cajun/WilsonWhooo.jpg)
AJ Foyt's car catches fire for the second time this month. Jesus, I hope he's ok
-
Danica had some pit trouble--she comes out in 13th.
Here's a rundown of the Top 20, circa Lap 42:
-
Marco Andretti is moving up! The Indiana Jones car is in 4th!
John Andretti is running solidly in 14th.
Battle for the lead!
Right now, Wheldon can't get past Dixon.
-
We are 1/4 done!
AJ Foyt IV is GETTING BACK IN THE RACE!!!!!
The fans like that!!!
They had to get a new helmet, because the old one was full of Fire Extunguisher.
-
Go, Go, Go !
-
Go, Go, Go !
He's showing his veteran skills so far. :)
Here's circa Lap 51:
-
I have to say, there are surprising names moving up the field! The top 5 aren't too much of a surprise, but there's a lot of very competitive folks right there!
-
Uh oh. Marty Roth smacks the wall, right where Graham Rahal did. That's it for him.
Helio Castroneves took some nose damage, but is still out there.
Mario Moraes has been told to contact the Director's Channel. That means tech issue or rules issue, most likely.
We'll see who's in first after this pit. AJ Foyt IV, Junqueira, Moraes, and 1 or 2 others stay out.
-
What happened to my fella!
-
What happened to my fella!
He was off-sequence for pit stops. He's back up to 13th right now, and has looked good today.
If you guys need any questions answered about your drivers, I have a lot of live feeds, radio coverage, and online guides going here. Lemme know.
-
As of Lap 64 (wow!):
-
Any chance of a link to a live results feed please.
-
Yeah, here (http://www.indycar.com/). Click on the link for "Live Timing And Scoring"
EDIT: Manning, Fisher, making another pit. Sarah Fisher had some issues today. Darren Manning was running strong, and his car looks good today.
-
Its a pity Gencon not at the same time as the race, it would have been good to watch it this year.
Thanks for the link.
-
Its a pity Gencon not at the same time as the race, it would have been good to watch it this year.
Thanks for the link.
Oh, are you going to Gen Con!! It will be cool to meet you!!!! Mi casa/su casa and all that!
-
Vitor Meira and Ed Carpenter are putting on a SHOW!!!
EDIT: Junqueria is back in the pits with brake issues. Bad day for him so far.
-
Looks like the wall is winning so far....
-
Look for some pushes from somewhere in positions 11-20 soon. Someone's moving up. Justin Wilson, Buddy Rice, and Davey Hamilton all have faster best laps than their current group.
Also, Jeff Simmons, Milka Duno, EJ Viso and Oriol Servia have all quietly moved up a few spots.
Another yellow!!! Single-car....
Jaime Camara has a hard hit in Turn 2 (twice, if you count the ding in Turn 1).
Speed is only one part of Indy. Fuel strategy is a HUGE part of it. 80 laps down, 120 to go!
-
Looks like the wall is winning so far....
The wall always wins.
I'm just glad they've been mostly single-car incidents this year. No bank, no room for error.
-
Nearly everyone pits. Get ready for position change!
-
Lap 86:
-
The only 3 drivers out so far are Roth, Rahal, and Camara. Foyt, Fisher, and Junqueria are all still fighting.
-
The two Buddys touched briefly on the restart. OK, I think.
Tony Kanaan is moving up and kicking ass!
The crowd ROARS!
TOny Kanaan is the NEW LEADER!!! WOW!
Danica Patrick is being very aggressive, moving up!!!
-
Man, there are a lot of guys just going balls-out.
Marco Andretti and THomas Scheckter are also looking to move!!
Ed Carpenter is looking great, and is still hanging in there.
-
Yeah I will be there, just look for the man with extreme jet lag on the Cubicle 7 stand (well that could be all of us in truth).
-
17th :(, here comes my good old 3 legged donkey again.
Someone do me a favour give him a push please :)
Rog.
-
Lap 105:
Tony Kanaan hits the wall and tags Sarah Fisher. That's lap traffic biting you in the butt:
Before the crash:
-
Sarah Fisher and Tony Kanaan are done for the day. :(
Scott Dixon is the leader.
-
Here's what I just learned...I can't watch this on TiVo delay and monitor this thread....
-
It's not a push, Rog, but it is a restart.
-
Not the kind of push I really wanted but Im 16th now :)
-
Try this one (opens in seperate page), thanks Zach.

Rog.
-
lol..yeah, but its just part of the race. It happens.
Here's who is out of it thus far:
6) Tony Kanaan, #11 Serious Paul (14)
13) Graham Rahal (R, F), #06 norinrad (28)
22) Sarah Fischer (F), #67 JongWK (11)
30) Jaime Camara (R), #34 Faerywitch (13)
33) Marty Roth, #25 ElHombre (30)
-
OK - caught up on TiVo...for the moment.
How about that pit of HC - jumped back into the top 10. He's lurking...lurking....
-
This has been a nice break from what I should be doing, you know that boring games designing stuff (lucky the bosses dont read this forum - unless their lurkers of course).
-
Something broke on the front of Jeff Simmons' car. Bad for him.
Yeah, Helio is lurking..he is still very much in this.
Ryan Hunter-Rheay is really looking good, too!
I'm thinking with this many competitive cars still in this late, we should see a good final 25 laps or so.
EDIT: I just noticed Buddy Rice is creeping up! 14th!
-
Yeah, that was strange. As the commentrs said, you would expect it to dive left. It's almost as if there was something keeping it from turning right that snapped. And it looked like the steering when with it because he couldn't stop himself from crossing the entire track and hitting the other side...
-
ooooh...look at helio on danica's ass...
wait...that doesn't sound right...
-
and now the officials are telling her not to block...hah...
-
wow...and the guy that screwed TK just took the lead. He better win and give all the credit to TK (they are team mates).
-
ooooh...look at helio on danica's ass...
wait...that doesn't sound right...
Er...yeah.
Wow! Nice move by Marco Andretti! Think the crowd likes him a little?
Scheckter and Carpenter are really, really impressive today! Dixon and Wheldon we knew, but man!
Vitor Meira, too!
-
Dan Wheldon is having some issues. He's slowed wayyyyyy down.
Lap 130:
John Andretti has dropped, but relaistically, not too badly. Those last few spots on that list are still hanging in there.
CRAP! Justin Wilson just lost his rear wing. He's still moving....um...no. No, he isn't. Well, he's moving, his car isn't.
-
Good bye Mr. Wilson...
-
My touch of death strikes!
-
Good bye Mr. Wilson...
OUT:
6) Tony Kanaan, #11 Serious Paul (14)
13) Graham Rahal (R, F), #06 norinrad (28)
22) Sarah Fischer (F), #67 JongWK (11)
30) Jaime Camara (R), #34 Faerywitch (13)
33) Marty Roth, #25 ElHombre (30)
16) Justin Wilson (R), #02 One Horse Town (18)
24) Jeff Simmons, #41 Werekoala (10)
-
What happened to Simmons?!
-
Bad pit stop for Ed Carpenter. He'll lose ground, but we'll see if he can't move up.
-
What happened to Simmons?!
It looked like a suspension issue. Nothing he could do about it.
-
That'll push up Helio a position (right behind Patrick).
-
Not that I think he'll win, or anything. My touch of death should be coming in the last 30 laps...
-
That'll push up Helio a position (right behind Patrick).
Yeah, barring an incident, he should be right there at the end. Glad he overcame that earlier issue.
-
You think these guys are desperate for Danica to win or what? Sheesh.
-
Moraes almost lost it.
EJ Viso pitting unexpectedly. Hmmm.
Marco is fighting Scott Dixon--but here comes Scheckter!
-
Lap 143:
Helio, Danica move up!
21 are still on the lead lap. That's excellent.
-
John Andretti and Davey Hamilton, two sentimental favorites, climb back into the lead 20...
-
On lap 147, a few familiar faces begin to crawl back up:
-
G'bye Alex Lloyd.
-
Ouch...
-
Ouch...
Thank God that wasn't when a lot of folks were in the pits.
-
wow...the pit crews are lucky...
that was a nasty little crash with lots of ugly possibilities...
-
Dan Wheldon and Thomas Scheckter appear to be boned.
-
Ed Carpenter is back in first!
Thomas Scheckter is done for the day, from what they're saying. Broken input shaft.
-
wow...sheckter...and helio moves to 3...
-
I'll tell you now, helio won't win. He doesn't have it. It's a good car, and he's doing well. But the only way he wins is if he gets lucky and others have issues...
-
I'm telling you, Meira made one of the best moves I've seen at Indy pulling it up.
Buddy Lazier needs to pick up the pace or will get black-flagged.
It seriously is anyone's race--there's about 10 drivers I could see winning this right now.
-
Lap 166:
Milka Duno did a nice piece of driving staying out of contact. Pity for her--Buddy Lazier may have had control problems. I'd hate to think otherwise.
This is a good yellow for Ed Carpenter. Otherwise, he would have had to make a green-flag pit.
With 170 laps, this really pulls in fuel strategy. Normally, the last pit would be around lap 186-188. What do the teams do now?
-
Everyone who counts pits.
-
Danica Patrick and Ryan Briscoe contact coming out of the pits. We'll see if they're done.
-
They're going to try to get both of those cars back in. I don't think it'll happen.
Dixon takes the lead coming off the pits.
EDIT: Ryan Briscoe is still sitting in his car. The crowd is booing him.
-
Ahhh..the fans....
Poor, poor Danica...I hope she doesn't have her mascara run when she cries...
-
Man, was she mad.
-
cry me a fucking river...
if she was a guy, people would hate him - see tony stewart as reference...
-
But she isn't. ;)
-
What a day!
Man, this should be an awesome finish!
-
But she isn't. ;)
I just explained to my wife....
look, this shit happens in racing - even if the other guy was as wrong as the day is long, you don't go stalking down pit row like you're some sort of tough bitch.
And that's not counting the fact that this was probably an innocent mistake.
She's acting NASCAR at Indy - and it shows how little class she has.
In one way, I wish the security would have let her play it out - she was either going to look like a harping bitch or have someone who doesn't care she's a woman hand her her lunch...like he would if some guy pulled the same bull...
-
Despite the spinout, I gained a lot of respect for Milka Duno today.
-
somehting is wrong with helio's car...
-
Andretti moves to 2nd within the next lap..
unless he lets up on the throttle...
-
Here comes....
-
I'll be bubble boy...in fourth...
-
1) Scott Dixon
2) Vitor Meira
3) Marco Andretti
-
who had dixon....
better not be one them them first timers...
-
Congrats J!
I think we were the only two in the first two rows that finished...and in the position order (he first, me fourth)...
-
If I won a race, I'd want some fucking champagne. God damn Political Correctness....
Congrats to the winners!
-
Ah well. 16th isn't bad :D
-
1) Scott Dixon, #9 J Arcane (4)
2) Vitor Meira, #4 avidreader514 (17)
3) Marco Andretti (F), #26 pspahn (9)
Hey, congrats, winners!
PM me with your address, the sort of RPGs you are and are not into, the sort of RPGs you like, and I'll get your prizes out this next week!

If I won a race, I'd want some fucking champagne. God damn Political Correctness....
Congrats to the winners!
Yeah, its a tradition though. I'm sure they get hammered later.
-
If I won a race, I'd want some fucking champagne. God damn Political Correctness....
Congrats to the winners!
duuuude...I'm with you on the PC - but that's not the reason they do milk...
In fact - it's probably anti-PC, for peta anyway
In the end, it's all just tradition born from crass commercialism..

Yeah baby, 20th place. Great race and commentating from Zach, just finished reading it all. Thx for the coverage and the opportunity to partake in the fun and thrills.

Ah, Canada! You're gonna kill me on shipping! :p
If Vitor was just a little bit faster....you'd have a real problem on your hands! [grin]

Yep! PM me with your addy and the sort of stuff you'd want (And wouldn't want).
Cool. I'm gonna go take a nap, and then I'll shoot you some ideas later this evening.
-
16th posistion not bad at all, good race !
-
I was off seeing Iron Man. That's an excusable absence, right?
-
Cool. I'm gonna go take a nap, and then I'll shoot you some ideas later this evening.
Ahhh...the nonchalance of victory is killing me. :p
-
Well, Darren finished in the top 10 anyway, now I'm going back to the Nascar and F1 races. Grats Ya'all.

8th place -- not too bad. :)
Cool cars Doc. Maybe some rich nerd will sponsor an Encounter Critical car for next year... but then who knows that kind of luck something like that might bring a driver.
-
Ahhh...the nonchalance of victory is killing me. :p
Truth be told I'm not feeling that great today.
That Traveller car actually looks pretty damn stylish. A damn sight more than most actual Indy cars . . . ;)
-
That fucking Traveller car would look so sweet on the track at 220....
Hasbro should have sponsored Helio for a D&D car - then his fourth would be a perfect finish for them...
Hope you feel better J - congrats, again!
-
If my dude had been racing the Encounter Critical car he totally would have won. Good race, peoples!
-
Thanks for putting all of this together Zachary! :)
