This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'm glad!

I'm glad that North Korea set off a nuke. I really am.

George W. Bush acted like a popmous asshole for years on this matter, commanding NK to cease and desist in it's efforts and to refuse to even talk with them over it until AFTER they'd complied with his demands.

In other words, W was telling them "Just do what I say, we're not going to discuss it."

Personally, I'm so sick of W's arrogance and pompousity that I'm literally in a paroxysm of ecstacy someone finally, publicly and in a very real fashion told him to go fuck himself, and that is undenaibly what NK has done.

Maybe this failure of "dictatorial diplomancy" will get it thru W's skull that dictating to others often has negative results.

I'm not expecting it, of course, as W clearly has had his head up his ass so long his brain has died of asphyxia, but if nothing nelse it was nice to see him publicly flipped off.

Despite what you, one hundred million stupid Americans, and Dubya himself think, world affairs and morality do not revolve around George W. Bush.

One of the most oppressively dictatorial, and the most heavily-militarised state in the world having nuclear weapons is a bad thing. It's a bad thing for anyone to have nuclear weaons, but it's an esecially bad thing for these guys to have them.

If you want to tell Dubya to go fuck himself, write a letter and join the queue. Open your perspective a bit wider.

Maybe we can get them to use it against US forces!  That'd really show that dipshit Bush a thing or two.

Seriously, guy, I'm usually a pretty mild-mannered fellow, but you really act like a total douche sometimes.  That or some freshman college kid who just got his first taste of some university politico group.  Grow the fuck up and find a different way to express your rage at the machine short of cheering nuclear weapons in the hands of unstable oppressive dictatorships.

Dude.:jaw-dropping:

You're going to become the most popular person around.

Dude. Seriously. No goverment should be allowed to have and use nuclear weapons. But, as it happens, the North Korea goverment is rule by a madman. You may wish to reconsider your position.

College? I was entirely over this kind of thinking in my freshman year of highschool.

Not to mention that the US is not alone in its position on this one. All parties in the six-party talks have pretty much said "Fuck you Kim Jong Il, we can't talk with you while you're doing nuclear bomb tests."

The UN Security Council is more or less unanimous on this as well.

Hey, maybe this will teach W to actually negotiate with other regimes instead of just dictate to them. Now that he's got nuked egg all over his face maybe the idiot will learn, or one of his puppetteers will learn, that you can't just snap your fingers at people and yell "DO!"

Given this collossal failure maybe someone in the W regime will learn something.  I doubt it, but hope springs eternal.

As to the feeble minded ones here worried about NK having a nuke, rest your feeble minds on this one. They do not have a delivery system yet, and their last missile test fizzled.

Unless you plan on comitting suicide with it, a nuke is useless without a delivery system.

Japan.

They hardly need a delivery system, and it'll really fuck with our shiny new global economy.

I will try to explain to you once again: there's nothing to learn from that, neither for Bush or any other government. There's a madman with nuclear capability. That's bad news.

That only proves that their attack range is very limited, and that you're an idiot for not considering that they could be interested in attacking some of their near neighbours, not only the States. That's why Japan is preparing itself.
Also, a delivery system is far more easy to get than a nuclear bomb. So that's a feeble minded argument from you.

Balbinus

NK is interested in bombing South Korea, Japan and China potentially, only a fuckwit would think they were primarily concerned with the US.

NK having the bomb is not a message to the US, only an arrogant fuckwit would think that, it is a direct threat to the lives of people in South Korea, Japan and China.

Only a fuckwit would think the risk of tens or hundreds of thousands of people dying horribly was a good thing if it made GWB look bad, particularly since it doesn't even make him look bad.

This is good for GWB you dipshit, he argues that America is unsafe and needs the Republicans because he argues the Dems are weak on security issues.  Anything that makes the world look more dangerous helps him as by and large the argument that the Dems are weak on security has been successful (I'm not saying they actually are, but the Republicans are seen as stronger on this issue).  So, you are celebrating an event that actually helps Bush domestically and puts large numbers of civilians at risk.

At the risk of being rude, you're being a fucking idiot and showing all the political nous of my cats.

Well, this is the first day since 2004 that I see Balbinus answering someone so rudely. Congrats, Dominus Nox, not only have you made the stupidest political analysis in a long time, you also achieved a rude answer from the usually cool and polite Balbinus. That's a real deal.

I do get irate when people make light of potential massive civilian casualties and of the real fear and anxiety this will cause a great many people in the region, and also when someone thinks that how something effects their domestic politics is the only issue that matters at all (and in this case even gets that wrong).

But really it's the total lack of insight into the risk this poses people in that region and the real fear it will cause to ordinary people just living their lives.

What he's forgetting is that the South Koreans and Chinese and Japanese are people too, much like us, every one the centre of their own narrative.  Every one of them matters just as much as we do and I think he has forgotten that and is thinking of it all in the abstract.

I'm not saying war is necessarily bad, I don't think it always is, but I think here Dominus displays the trait that has derailed much of America's recent forieign policy - an utter lack of empathy for the people affected and an excessive focus on issues in the abstract as opposed to the concrete.

The irony is, he shows much more in common here with the neocons than I think he realises.

It's not abstract, it's a lot of people living near a deranged neighbour who now has a greater power to cause massive death and suffering.  It's pretty concrete.

It's the same reason I oppose the Iraq war, we're ostensibly fighting for abstract principles but in the process we've caused the deaths of tens of thousands of Iraqui civilians, each one of which was a person just as we are.

Dominus is like the neocons in this, I don't think from his post he grasps that fact, that they (the people in the region) really are people just like we are.
