This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I need advice. Register.com or godaddy.com?
« on: March 08, 2009, 10:03:56 PM »
Hi, guys. I currently have a domain from register.com that I pay for annually, but it's about to run out. Godaddy.com seems cheaper, but I'm not knowledgeable about this stuff. Who should I go with? I need advice quickly, as my domain is literally about to run out. Could anyone give me some advice?

I suppose it doesn't matter too much - I used godaddy for a bunch and they've been fine. Your decision about who to host is probably more important ...

I suspected as such, but I wasn't really sure. I'm in a rush to do this before midnight, so I better hurry. Thanks, man.

I have switched from Register to GoDaddy about...hmm, 3 years ago or maybe 4. Anyway, I find GoDaddy cheaper, easier to use and much more accessible. I have multiple domains, mail exchanges and various other registration through them and they all work well. I say this as someone who used Register for about 10 years before GoDaddy.

Hope that helps and yes, your ISP is important too.

GoDaddy's worked fine for me, for several domains. Cheap, and decent support, too.

Alrighty. I just called godaddy.com, and set up two domains. I created a new one, and partially transferred the old one from register.com. Tomorrow, I'll contact register.com, and get those guys to release my authorization code, so that I can fully transfer my old domain to godaddy.com. It seems my register domain runs out on the 18th, and not tomorrow as I feared. That gives me a little breathing room... :)

I've known many folks who have had sites through godaddy and only one time has any of them had any troubles at all.  So that track record is really good in my book.  So you probably made the best choice there.
