SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

How come we can't ever seem to summon any interesting developers?

I don't either.  I use Firefox 3 with one of the GrApple themes.  Used to use Camino but got tired of not having my damn extensions.

I'm gonna check out this new Google Chrome thing though.  It sounds like it could be cool.

Quote from: HinterWelt;243218That reminds me Clash. Would a huge earth satellite network called the Shield fit in the setting you and I were working on? Remember, we did not have a name for it but it was pretty cool and I wrote up a city on Mercury. I think it would be a cool item even if it is just a string of killer satellites. Alternatively, I could see it around Neptune as an artifact left over from the ancients.

Oh, right, what were we supposed to be bitching about...

Bill

I think it would fit best on Neptune, actually. The setting name I've been using internally was "Lowell Was Right!" though that won't make it to release... Too few would understand the reference, and it sure ain't catchy! :D

Well, there you go. I'm still mostly using PPC-based machines, and they're beginning to drag.

I read this awesome short story once, about a guy in Ecuador who banded together all the poorer nations at the equator, and declared they were extending their airspace upward into orbit.  Since the vast majority of communications satellites in orbit are centered above the equator, it basically meant they had to start paying all these otherwise poverty stricken countries or else move their satellites out of orbit.

Ahh.  I use FF2 on my old Powerbook G4, but I don't think I'd dream of using FF3 on it.  Just too big for it.  It's old though, it has troubles with Flash even.

How do you get online with particle projector cannons?  I thought it was hard enough with two medium lasers and a gauss gun.

And they were going to defend their claim how? I mean it sounds nice, but would mean abandoning space entirely, since those satellites are there above the equator for a reason, and submitting to that claim would just lay any space-going nation open to legal hijacking.

Someone with an Atlas...or Daishi? I could see that being very persuasive.

I forget the details involved exactly.  IIRC there was also some American entrepreneur involved who had come to them with some method (surface to orbit missiles I think, or a computer virus, I don't remember) by which they could disable them.  The idea of the scheme was to get them all to band together as a bloc and essentially hold the airspace for ransom until the more affluent West started handing some more of the profits their way.

I think I was in like, junior high, when I read it, in some old Analogs I'd gotten free.  Wish I could remember a title or an author or sometihng.

Was it maybe Fred Saberhagen? Sounds like something he might have written, and he wrote a lot for Analog as well as Galaxy (my favorite mag)
