SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Actually, I've sworn off baiting Koltar.
There's some honesty.

First, it was to read and chat about RPGs in a freer environment than RPGnet. Now, it's mainly the inertia.

I came here originally as an alternative to RPG.net -- I wasn't banned, but I'd reached a point where I couldn't stand the moderation or the low signal-to-noise ratio.  However, what I found here (aside from the moronic "war") was a surprisingly vibrant discussion of roleplaying games, particularly of the more "classic" variety.  I've also found myself getting on very well with people whom I thought were total asses when I encountered them on RPG.net.

I came here from some mention of the site on rpg.net. I liked being able to talk about RPGs and the freedom to call people out on bullshit. I also enjoy being called out on my own bullshit.

I really hated having to self-censor myself to avoid getting PM's from Mods all the time. When I want to actually talk about RPGs, I come here.

I've already covered this in many previous posts HOW I discovered this forum.

 Why am I still here?

Because more often than not this place talks about RPGs as games !! (Hell yeah) and not as something else. You guys all seem to remember that its supposed to be fun stuff.

There's a vibe on here that most of us are actually in an RPG campaign or are actively trying to get one started.

Compared to other sites , thats a breath of fresh air , gaming-wise.

Also ...I've got a slight agenda of hearing how other games play out and what they're like because I work at a game store. I admit that agenda.

For information and inspiration about gaming. And to pass on the same.

Spike is right that it can be all a facade, and all fictional, but really that's up to each of us - some are open, some closed, some just take the piss - and is different only in scale from face-to-face interactions. The difference in scale means only that despite what the Tangencys of the world say, none of the people here are our friends, only acquaintances. But acquaintances are important, they're part of our lives and make them better or worse.

And the times I've met people I'd known online for some time, I was never really surprised by what I saw face-to-face. I don't think you can make up anything that isn't already in some way a part of you. Or rather you can, but you can't keep it up for years online. The real you ends up coming out, one way or another.
