This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Fringe S02 Ending (spoilers)
« on: July 15, 2010, 05:33:18 AM »
Just finished watching S02 of the very excellent Fringe. But I'm confused as to how Olivia got imprisoned by Walternate in the parallel universe and how parallel Olivia crossed over. When did the switch occur?
“Ghost Whistler” is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Parental death, alien battles and annihilated worlds.

It occurred during the explosion in the street outside the theatre.

Yeah. The swap was not very well done from a story/direction standpoint.  Predictable twist, fun for everyone (though Fringe at least has a very bad habit of making these turn out 'not fun' for the audience (see also: Olivia's Partner)), but poorly set up (yet surprisingly well telegraphed), and poorly executed.

Fringe is one of the few shows I DVR/Tivo (the other is Castle (and Sarah connor chronicles... which I STILL haven't watched season two of...), and I'll say one of the best of the genre I've seen, to include X-Files.  A friend suggested Warehouse 13, I saw about half of one episode and was... satisfied... I hadn't really missed anything.   I could do without Olivia turning out to be 'chosen', central to the shit going on if you will.
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

Brilliant show, but i still don't see how they explained the switch. Never mind.

I do wonder if they played their hand a bit too soon. Pretty much the whole parallel universe deal has been revealed now: Walternate's plan, Peter's true origin, Bell, even the Shapeshifters. There's not really much left in terms of surprises unless they come up with something brand new - which of course is entirely possible.

I think the only really big reveal was the whole Walternate angle. I mean, you had to be very dense to miss Peter being from the alternate dimension. Hell, that was explicitely revealed halfway into season two for the slower members of the audience.

They can easily get a third season out of the existance of the duplicates of everyone, and if they really want to drag it out, a fourth out of taking the fringe war to the other side.

Of course it does put a crimp on the 'random but fringe' stuff they do to fill out the seasons, things unconnected to the other side.  I'm not sure the alternate universe really explains the 'pattern' either, but that's been an 'also ran' sub plot for a while now.

Lastly are the observers, who are NOT connected to Walternate, and whom the fringe team has not managed to learn anything about.

Yes. I have hope. But my faith in hollywood to fuck it all up in a single night of rage, er... bad episode... is strong as well...

That bizarre device in the episode where we first meet the Observers (season 1), was that ever explained?
