This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

(Gasp!) A candidate that actually debates political philosophy

Quote from: Zachary The FirstLooks like Fred's in.  For GOPers, he's definitely my fave right now.
Did he announce?  I've been out-of-media-contact for the past few hours and only marginally interested for the week prior.  I did hear some blurb that someone was leaking he was going to announce over the Independence Day holiday.

Zachary The First

He formed a presidential committee, which is basically the first step towards running.  Yeah, I'd say he's in.  There's enough interest (I think he's pulling around 10%, behind Romney & Rudy, and that's without having been an "official candidate") that I can't see him not going for it now.

What's going to be interesting is that he's known for unorthodix campaigning.  I wouldn't be surprised to see a mirror-Lamont-style online campaign, for starters.

Its been said he'll run a more grass-roots, "populist" style campaign. Lots of alternate media, internet, etc. His red pickup truck he drove around Tennessee in when he ran for Senate will be making a comeback.

Word is he'll officially announce July 4th weekend or thereabouts.

Right now, I'm very much hoping Thompson runs. I'm gonna give him my vote for sure.

I think it's a sad commentary on the current slate of presidential hopefuls that two folks who haven't even announced they'll run yet are leading in the polls. One probably will run (Thompson) while the other has said time and again that he will not run (Gore).

If given the choice between the two, I'd vote Fred, even though I disagree with him politically on many issues. Gore has managed to re-invent himself fairly well recently, but I'll always see him through the 2000 election lens, and that's not a pretty filter.

Serious Paul

Is he using Dick Wolf as his speech writer? How about Tom Clancy as his Foreign Policy adviser? No?

Damn. Business as usual it seems to me. What's the worst he could do?

Heh... depending on where I go and what the subject is, I'm alternately called a "right-wing nazi" or a "commie pinko bastard."

James, I'm still not sure what I have to worry about. Are you saying that my insult to Gore will bring out the left-wing crazies? Or my off-hand compliment to him will bring out the right-wing crazies?
