I see a fair bit of turnover in the game stores. There are a core few who've been there for years, and the rest who come and go. In one of the stores, I've actually happened to be in there a few times when someone came for an interview.
They weren't very well-dressed or well-spoken, but then neither are the staff. The interview was conducted on the actual game store floor in front of customers, which seemed to me not very professional. Someone's work history and how the store is run should be more or less confidential.
I'm not sure on what basis they hire the staff. It's not good looks, being well-dressed or well-spoken, it's not knowledge of the products, it's not customer service, as customers are generally ignored until they come up to the bench.
