This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Okay , one of guys bnrought up Tarantino in that other thread.

I got to do a bit of a disclosure here: In the late 1980s into the early 1990s I wrote a Movie Trivie column for the University of Cincinnati Film Society, I'm alsoi cursed with a somewhat erratic photographic memory. Anytyhing I see twice or more timnes just sticks in my memory - whether i want it to or not. (Including at times TV shows and movies that I don't like as well...)

That group hit the National News back in 1987, USA Today and everything ...I had to act as bodyguard to our group's president for a week or so because of a controversy and death threats that we got. (all because Jean-Luc Goddard was an unhappy Catholic)

So, I got unusual opinions at times on movie directors and filmmakers. Sometimes I also hate it when those same people get all pretentious about their movies.

With movies its alright if sometimes a movie is just meant to be FUN.

Well, no shit.

The problem I have with these statements of yours like this are that you'll wade into a discussion -- where the very purpose is to discuss differing opinions, not just agree with one another -- and hand-wave everything away, commenting that everyone is taking things too seriously and should just make nicey-nicey.  Bullshit.  Very few of us are here to form a Mutual Admiration Society.

Similarly, I have a problem with you wading into discussions and making a bold proclamation like "That would be BAD," and lapsing into ominous silence without explaining why said thing would be bad.  To be frank, I suspect that you don't know why -- you just have an opinion that you can't really substantiate, and having made a bold declaration in all-caps, you sit back waiting for someone with a more informed opinion to weigh in on the topic, to which you can add an incisive comment like, "Exactly."  G'ah.  Bullshit.

This is why I keep calling you onto the carpet when you make assertions like these.  It isn't because I dislike you.  It's because I think you try to make erudite posts without understanding what you're saying.  It's because it's bullshit.

Ian, this thread is my fault. I have a feeling if John Kim started a thread "Why does everyone here like Post Modernism?" Koltar's responses would be very different. It's funny, I mentioned Tarantino because I thought Koltar would take me up on my offer to have a friendly brawl on the declining (IMO) quality of QT's particular take on genre films....but it would appear I was mistaken.

Regards,

No...you are right his movies are declining in quality.

Its similiar to when a novelist gets famous , and then  his publisher stops assigning an editor to him  going with the assumption that they can now do no wrong because they had a hit.

Quote from: AosI rather like most of Tarantino's movies.

I don't think he or I said they were bad...just declining in quality.

Heck, even so-so Tarantino is better than the "best" some other directors can do
