This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Female gamers?

JimBob brought up the subject of women gamers in a post sarcastically castigating some posters. It set me wondering how many female players/ GMs there are using this site?
Do you GM or play (or both)?
Please lets have no sock puppet posters pretending to be women. I don't want Dominus Nox in drag replying to this post!:D

Dominus Nox in drag... would he be wearing stockings?

I play with two female gamers and have played with a number over the years.  The vast over-whelming majority of which were not the just just girlfriends of other gamers (i.e. they weren't tagging along with their partner).

Right--but Anthrobot is wondering about female gamers who actually post here. I'm only aware of one.

Well, I've got one in my group (1 out of 4-5, which seems about the normal ratio for RPGs).

I could always ask her to post here.  Just gotta warn her about Nox like everybody else.  :D

Reminds me of a joke.

Australian guy walks into a bar, he walks up to this Australian girl and says "Excuse me love, but do you fuck?" she turns to him and replies "Well I do now you smooth talking bastard!"

I have to admit that unfortunately at the moment this site is something of a sausagefest, but then, so are all gaming fora (RPG.net has relatively few female posters who primarily post on the RPG forum, most of its female population tend to heavily favour tangency).

My gaming group has one female player at the moment (though there have been others in the past, here in Uruguay the gaming community has a good representation of women, and since the gaming community is very fluid, I have gamers come and go from my groups depending on the campaigns I'm running). Unfortunately, like most of my players, the language barrier prevents them from becoming regular posters here.

In my group there is one steady female gamer.  She's an actual gamer and not a tag along.

In a larp I used to assist with there were several female gamers of all types.

In my old group we had three female gamers.  One left for college to study anthropology, the other simply had a career that slowly took over her life and the other got married had kids and has little time left to game anymore (although on occasion she does manage to drop in for a pick up game here and there).

None of them are into online forums for gaming at all.  Go figure.

My role playing group has three women in it as players. One is in her 60s  and is a military veteran.  The other two are in their 30s. This group has been playing together for close to 3 years now.  (since April 2004)

At the Game store that I work at we have PLENTY of women gamers show up and shop and buy game stuff.  One of them I mentioned in another thread is an avid player of RIFTS.  Another is a fairly "hot" looking brunette in her 40s...the one I mentioned that when asked why she was the Dm of her group said : "Because I'm such a bitch".

Unbelievers pn another forum site thought I was lying about the number of women gamers in the area. I'm not. Just looked at a NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC magazine earlier tonight that had a map showing where single women outnumber single men and vice versa in the United States.  The Cincinnati area and southwestern corner of ohio had a big circle indicating that single women outnumber single men in this area.

It hasn't been my frigging imagination!!

Oh and I have recognized at least  one poster on here that I know is a woman...maybe two.  So, its not all guys on here.

Currently, four women and three men in my group. The women say they don't post on forums because they like playing rpgs not talking about them.

My group has been predominantly female for some time and I don't see that changing.  I meet many female roleplayers, though certainly agree that males remain a majority in the hobby.

I'm a woman, a GM, and a role-player.  In my regular groups, the male/female ration varies most from 40/60 to 60/40, but it's not rare for my husband to be the only guy at the table.

I don't often post on this forum because I often don't like the tone.  No, it's not welcoming to women.

Online some of my Tekumel* group are female gamers as are some gamers in other online groups I'm on, both chat and pbem games, both as GMs and as players. About a third.

Most do not read any RPG forums aside from a few threads that people like me may direct them to. Two regularly read a few forums or mailing lists directly related to games they like and occasionally post. Two (one is one of the gamers in the last sentence) I know have been to theRPGsite but AFAIK they no longer read here, at least one posted here for a short time.

Most of the local female gamers are also SOs of male gamers but some were into gaming before they met their SO. None of the ones I know have mentioned visiting RPG forums, let alone this one.

* One draw of Tekumel IMO is that the setting allows for female characters with legally equal status as males without breaking suspension of disbelief. All female priests (which includes wizards), warriors, and government workers must have such status. It's also possible to play a female character who has not declared such status, which IMO could make for a challenging character to play though I've yet to see anyone play such a character.

Out of interest, why is that?  What could be done to change it?
