I just heard Don't Believe a Word by Thin Lizzy on the radio for the first time in ages. It reminded me what a kick-ass solo it has (one of my favourites).

What are some of your favourites?

James J Skach

One of my favorites is, I think, an odd one.

Rush - Freewill.

Have you got the Live in Rio DvD?

Wow. That solo is amazing seen live with multiple cameras. It's like each of the three is playing different songs.

Robert Fripp's solo in Starless (from King Crimson's Red)...endless build, then a cathartic cacophony leading into the epic coda.  He also pulled a fantastic, mind-numbingly knotty solo in the first version of Easy Money from the Great Deceiver box.

Richard Thompson's solo from the version of Can't Win on the More Guitar live CD, also found on the Watching the Dark box.
For fuck\'s sake, these are games, people.

And no one gives a fuck about your ignore list.

I'll also add Dave Gilmor's amazing solo in the live version of Comfortably Numb. Blimey.

Clapton, Layla. It's always been one of my favorite guitar bits, ever.

Holy Wars, Megadeth.

That's the beauty of the solo on the studio recording. IMHO, it's so....disconnected, but at the same time it all fits. When I was young and I heard it, I didn't quite get it. I remember the first time I heard it and a little light went off and I thought "Wow, that's not bad, it's actually genius..."

This Dark Star from 2-18-71 is called the 'Beautiful Jam' by Deadheads...it ain't fast but it melts from the inside out

This Danny Gatton slow burning Sleepwalk is pretty incredible. That man knows his guitar better than most of us know our own dick.

Johnny Winter slides his Mojo Boogie on

Or you could always get on the Magic Bus with Pete

You can also come up with something that is not only original and creative and artistic, but also maybe even decent, or moral if I can use words like that, or something that\'s like basically good -Lester Bangs

The Stone Roses, "I Am the Resurrection", a rocking song in three movements.  The first movement starts out as an almost chirpy little pop tune with troublingly harsh lyrics.  Then, at about 3:40, the song shifts gears into the second movement and begins to rock you with the guitar solo.  Finally, at about 5:25, the third movement turns around and reprises the second movement.  Why?  Because it didn’t rock you hard enough the first time around.

Cool links dude. Love me some Maggotbrain now & then. My hometown radio station used to play that tune every Saturday night at midnight. I think it kind of worked like a Protection from Evil spell! :)
