This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Now that that's out of the way? You're clearly not paying enough attention. The only thing Pundit threatens banning for appears to be a pattern of disruption to the site. Unfortunately, disagreeing with him is disruption.

That's simply not true. People disagree with Pundit all the time. He may very well insult them, but when has he just arbitrarily banned ANYONE? The man has plenty of faults, but at least make a token attempt to be accurate.

Quote from: Christmas ApeStupid fucking rpg.net outtage. I wanted to do this clever thing where I take "Tell me why I shouldn't ban you" and Darren's "I'm in a bad mood I'll do what I want" reply in his controversial D&D thread, then make jokes about own goals and losing the cup to a hated rival team.

But noooooo, I'm reduced to making this fucking meta-post about how much this site is becoming exactly what the tBP mods said it would; a tiny little rpg.net with fouler language and a less clear-cut set of bannable offenses.

I'm not for banning anybody.  I'm for calling out people when they fuck up.  I think James was stirring the shit by starting this thread and I said so.  You think the admins are over-reacting and you are totally entitled to that opinion and to express that at any time.

But to substantively address your accusation that we have a less clear-cut set of bannable offenses than RPGnet, frankly I like it that way.  If we publish of list of stupid things that get you banned it will do very little to change the admin practices around here.  In theory such a list leads to consistent banning practices.  But admins are flawed people just like every other human.    The interpretation and enforcement of that list would be imperfect and subject to the whims of the admins.

So in practice, a clear-cut list of bannable offenses achieves only one thing.  It provides the admin a figleaf, a way to justify their bannings.  I don't want that.  I don't need that.  And I truly think this board is better without such a list.  Why?  Because if I show someone the door, it's all on Jeff Rients.  I can't point to some stupid stone tablets and pretend I'm not responsible for my actions.  It's all on me to make a good call, a call I can defend with something a lot better than "dude clearly violated Article 62, No Smoking In The Boys' Room".

Quote from: BrantaiAre we seriously expected to worry about how Pundit is going to react to what we post?

No.  I generally expect people to speak their mind without fear of consequence.  However, I think it is fair in this case to acknowledge that this particular thread followed fast on the heels of the previous drama of the moment and could be seen as an attempt to fan those flames.  Since we all enjoy the freedom to speak our minds here, I don't think I'm out of line in asking people to take seriously their responsibility to avoid unnecessary controversy.  We've got plenty of relevant, on-topic, and fun controversies we could be slugging it out over instead.

At this point I'm not going to post on this thread any more.  And I'm personally asking everyone else to think twice before adding to this particular shitpile.  If you want to start a new thread without the words Dominus or Nox in the title to continue the debate, that would be fine by me.  If you want to send me or Pundit a PM, that's fine too.  But I've said my piece here and I'm done.

Quote from: jrientsJames.  Come one, man.  Pundit just got done flying off the handle at the sight of someone necro-ing an old thread with Nox's name in the title.  Given everything we all know of Pundit's tendency to flip the fuck out, starting a new thread about Nox at this time looks like trying to incite Pundit to freak out and close another thread.  Can you see how I might reach that conclusion, especially given the history of you two sparring in the past?  From where I'm sitting this thread in the current context looks like pissing in the soup.  Maybe you didn't mean the yellow stuff to land in the pot, but what was your dick doing out in the kitchen anyway?

You see what I'm saying, man?

I see it, and I saw it going into it. But I knew of no other way to get in touch with someone that never reads these boards anymore. I decided not to let the concern that a guy who hates me and thinks I'm a liar whose only goal is to destroy his game, his site, and perhaps even his world might be upset. What's he gonna do, like me less?

Quote from: JimBobOzAs has been said, sending him a PM is a good bet, or else posting to a thread he started - some people set themselves to get email notifications on those.

On SJGames, Dominus Nox also called himself Lexx, Nomad and JCD.

There is a "Dominus Nox" on rpg.net, but his sig says something like "there's a permabanned guy by the same name, I ain't him."

Thank you for that helpful and topical post. We've had our differences in the past (and I'm sure we will in the future) but I appreciate you seeing through all the bullshit and actually trying to help me with my original goal.

Quote from: Sacrificial LambThis is not RPGnet. We don't need to fear the mods here. That fact alone changes everything.

And honestly, are we forgetting the "Dark Times"? Remember when Nox had access to "Off Topic Discussion", and it was the "Dominus Nox Show"? So soon we forget. :(  Furthermore, James is deliberately and publicly invoking Nox's name on the subforum Nox was banished from. That's asking for trouble. :(

Where else should I have invoked it? He doesn't, as far as I can tell, read the entire site now. This isn't a thread related to RPGs or the forum itself, so OT seemed the only place for it.

Now that that's out of the way? You're clearly not paying enough attention. The only thing Pundit threatens banning for appears to be a pattern of disruption to the site. Unfortunately, disagreeing with him is disruption. Oh, he'll first take some time to tell you how magnanimous and forgiving he is, like all tyrants before the ax falls, for not banning you right off for calling into question his absurd shit. But do it a few times, or at least enough times to get the hamster in his head running on that little Paranoia Wheel, and your entire history on the site has been an attempt to disrupt and harass it because you work for the Swine like some kind of fucking MKULTRA killer, programmed to compulsively interfere and vex whenever "real roleplayers", I mean "regular roleplayers", get together.

You mean back when the poster who was least conducive to real conversation fit into an ignore list, and primarily kept his shit to Off-Topic, rather than breaking into rational conversations to scream "FUCK! SWINE! FUCK!! I SO SMART AND GOOD! FORGE BAD!!! RRRRAAAR! FUCK!!"?

Yes, but clearly with a different level of fondness. You're still living there, man, so it looks pretty awful...I've moved past it and seen how shitty the future is.

The shit was stirred, but that wasn't the goal. I just decided not to get worried about shit being stirred. Eventually I'm going to say something that will piss in Pundit's porridge anyway.

Waittaminnit! Is that honestly coming out of the keyboard of a mod on RPGPundit's website? Who decides which controversies are unnecessary? How necessary is it to start three threads calling a designer you don't like a moron? How necessary is it to start a thread about Mike Mearls's penis?

Does "unnecessary" mean "treads on the delicate sensibilities of an over the hill paranoid loon?"

Does this mean the words Dominus & Nox are now fully entrenched onto the censorhip list, or was Pundit's editting them out of a title and you saying "don't do it again" a coincidence?

No worries, mate. Whatever people may think of my posting style or opinions, I do try to stay on-topic for each particular thread. If I have my own wild opinions I simply have to force on the world, I'll just start my own thread :D

Also as part of the same spirit that motivates GameCircle.org, I think it's nice to be able to connect gamers to one another. That's why I've invited Aussie gamers who insulted me a lot to GameCircle.org - just because I probably wouldn't want to game with them doesn't mean I wish for them to be without gaming, or gamers to talk to. It's nice to be able to connect people if you can.

Why anyone would want to be connected to Dominus Nox (as he presents himself online) is beyond me, but really it's not my problem.

I find the best way to keep things on-topic is to point out that if the threadjacker really wants to discuss so-and-so, they should start their own thread. If you respond to their points at all, you've conceded that the thread is now about their chosen topic.

One should never fear moderators of any type, especially those on internet forums. But that's just my tangential reply, and thought on this one sentence, in one post.

See I view this slightly differently. I enjoy that discussions, just like real life discussions, can lead to tangents that I may have never otherwise even conceived of going. To me it's a natural part of conversation.

Admittedly there is a time and place for everything, and sometimes you really do want to cut to the chase, so to speak. But I enjoy seeing the natural progression of things with out forcing it to fit into a certain mold.
