This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Looks like there is a line, and it was FINALLY crossed. NOw maybe the moderation there will achieve a modicum of normality.

For those of us forced to view the place through an unregistered filter, and therefore unable to see that subforum, could someone copy and paste?

Did Curt jump, or was he pushed? And for what reasons?

Edit:

Well, no-one except the victim would complain here if he said, "your mother is a cum-guzzling whore," which was what got him suspended from rpg.net for a couple of days a while back. Though that sort of tone fits in better at Animbalball than here, it wouldn't be hugely out of place. Someone would just say, "yeah, so?" and continue with the real discussion. :D

In case some of you don't have access.

QuoteCurt:

RPG.net has been a fun place for me for several years. Less so since I became a moderator, true, but still a fun place. As of today, that's no longer true, so I'm taking off.

When a person joins the mod staff, they are asked to keep backstage things backstage. I agreed to do that and I don't see how being fired changes that, so I won't go into specifics. I will say that I didn't go willingly and that I'm not happy about it. Other than that, I'm sure the admins will be happy to fill you in on their side at request.

You have any idea how many puns and punchlines I am resisting posting in response to that?

Well...IF he does show up over here - I know there will be another GURPS player around.

Thanks for this, so many people have been IP banned that something like quoting the text of a purple toilet post is helpful.

Oh okay. So in other words, it went,

Curt: "Your mother is a cum-guzzling whore!"
Admins & Mods: "Dude, you're a mod! You can't talk like that. Fuck, we have to have some dignity!"
Curt: "What about Darren MacLennan?"
Admins & Mods: "Yes but his flaming is funny. You just insult people."
Darren MacLennan: "Fuck you with my big toe with peanut butter on it."
Admins & Mods: "See?"
Curt: "Fuck you. What you gonna do about it?"
Admins & Mods: "Look, you can't be a mod anymore. But you can be a regular poster."
Curt:

Poor Curtman.

I certainly hope he finds another forum that I have some interest in so I can hang out. I always liked Curt...and I wonder exactly what happened.

I see no reason not to think it's as I described it.

Aparently there was a discussion going on about gay issues. Some cocksmock said, oh, but "that is so gay!" isn't always insulting towards actual gays, it depends on context! So Curt replied, So if I said your mother was a cum-guzzling whore, that'd be okay, in certain contexts?

Darren MacLennan publicly rebuked Curt for a "personal attack", but edited out the "cum-guzzling whore" bit, leaving a red-text, "edited by mods." Of course lots of people had seen it by then, and quoted and referred to it. Curt was then suspended for two days, as noted here in Trouble Tickets on 9th March.

Four days after his suspension is up, we're told by Curt that he's been fired as a mod, as you can see from his quoted text above.

I don't think there's any mystery over the affair. Curt insulted someone, they removed him as a mod but let him keep posting as a user. Curt's post about this tells us that he'd rather not post at all than post as a user not a mod. Of course, he says that he was tired of rpg.net anyway, but I would argue that since his profile shows he had 25,177 posts in all, or 13.28 posts per day, well... that's a lot of posts for someone who hates the place. It's very reminiscent of many a scene in a workplace, "You're fired!" "Screw you, I hated this job anyway!" or end of a relationship, "I'm breaking up with you!" "Fuck you shithead, I hated you anyway!"

There really doesn't seem to be any mystery about this one.

Curt's not only had his black hat taken, he's upped and quit TBP?  That's two of the Chi-Town Troika gone now, within a week or so.  Only Issac's left, and I am not sure how long he'll stick around now that his wife and his roomate are gone from RPG Net.

Now if we could only get a serious change in moderation philosophy over at tBP. Sort of like what we've got here. Advice to the errant kept private; suspensions and bans discussed publically; no one immune from rebuke.

And, Tangency gets a forum all its own. tBP for RPG discussions only. And if you won't watch your manners, everybody else gets to dump on you.

Well, it remains to be seen how long he'll stay away. My experience is that people who say of a forum, "Fuck this, I'm never coming back here again!" almost always do. The ones who really are leaving just go without a word.
