Yes. Despite my ambivilance towards it re: lack of camp, I have been told that under no uncertain circumstances will I be failing to go see that when it comes out.

On the other hand, Kick Ass defies my ability to rationally state one way or the other.

Should be entertaining. The music doesn't gel with me though.

It is something of a recent trend, if I recall an article I read not too long ago.  Replacing the soundtrack of normally 'classic' music that would be present at the time of a period piece with modern music, or a modern update of the period music is somewhat controversial still, I think.

You lost me a bit on this.
I'm not exactly a fan of the typical "classic" soundtrack delivered with Hollywood movies. It's usually formulaic and uninspired. But at least it gets out of the way of enjoying the movie, like some elevator music. I wish the music reflected somewhat the setting, even if the fiction is far from being historical, and the semi-unknown about what music sounded like during antiquity.

That's just mock up music, the Thompson Twins  will be doing the actual soundtrack.

I had a feeling I may have taken a few too many liberties with sentence structure.  :)

For a movie like Clash of the Titans, one would expect some kind of variation on an ancient Greek melody suitable to the period.  A somewhat modern update would also pass without notice.  However, there is a growing trend to use the pseudo-metal music heard in the trailer for this one to punch up the action, regardless of the period or culture portrayed. Lots of drums, electric guitars, and so on. Oftentimes, it's not even a piece that is based on anything from the period, but an original composition as though it were not a period piece at all.

Did you not see how Neeson and Fiennes looked ? That's like camp of the old English kind....

I like it. And Iron Man 2, which is a bit odd since I didn't see the first Iron Man.

Edit: Stormbringer, maybe they were aiming for the Heavy Metal vibe....

Hrm. I will visit Youtube and watch the trailers again.  Not tonight, my Sunday night game is moving to Fridays so I'll be busy.

I enjoyed Iron Man, but I don't quite get the hot sweaty manlove it gets on the web.  It was good, but not THAT good.  Still, I'll be seeing IM2 in the theater... my endurace for sequels is legendary. I saw Rise of the Lycans on opening day, you know.

I really like Iron Man. I think it is worthy of the praise it gets.

Yeah.

I'm just hoping it doesn't turn into a Stephen Sommers homage....

I want to see the Clash of the Titans remake but your offhand comment is something to think about. It is a horrible Hollywood tradition to mate a currently popular singer or band with a movie that is coming out. It may not be the Thompson Twins for this one, but you have to wonder if Lady Gaga was or was not approached to help "sexy up" the soundtrack.

Tim Burton's first Batman film has this problem, among others (Jack Nicholson). The Prince music in it is completly goofy. And I rather like Prince.

Fuck, did I just admit that?

I would have to agree, really.  I dig the music they used in the trailer, I hope more of that is in there.  But if they cram in some indie darling that doesn't fit well, that would be a mark against it.
