Can it be done at home? If so, how, and what's the cost and time?

I've seen a site which promises to sell you instructions on how to bind a book at home in five minutes, but I'm a bit skeptical: if it can be done, why don't RPG 'micro-publishers' do it (or do they and I just haven't heard)?

I've done it before.  I wouldn't say it's easy, but it's satisfying for the nit-picky sort of hobbyist.  Depending upon the quality of the result you're looking for, you'll need to purchase a variety of specialised tools and supplies.  A good quality art supply store should be able to supply you with things like backing board, bone folder, etc.  Beware of purchasing tiny bits of linen at exhorbitant prices -- go to a fabric store for such things in much larger quantities at more reasonable prices.

I used to have a couple of great links bookmarked, but lost them last year.  No, wait!  I just found it again.  I really quite liked this one best.

I've only done it twice, and while it was very time consuming, I found the experience highly satisfying.

I think book-binding is a cruel and inhumane process, and should be illegal. Books should be free to grow unfettered by anything but nature.
