This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Parties.

NOT political Parties.

The kind of parties with refreshments, entertainment of some kind and people invited to it.

What do you folks prefer?

What do you think makes a good party?

How much preparation?

Is impromptu better?

If invites are sent out - how far in adavance?

What has worked for you in the past?

Prefer to be the host/hostess?

..or just help the host a little bit?

Drinks -

Non-alcoholic, juices, soda-pop, coffees?
-OR-
Alcoholic drinks available?

What do you folks prefer?
People you get along with, and who get along with each other.  Nothing ruins a partly like a fight breaking out.

What do you think makes a good party?
No fights breaking out.  Some organic discussion about a number of topics.  Maybe some Munchkin and Catan.

How much preparation?

Depends on the guests.  Some like to have the host prepare things so they feel special, others just want to show up, drink, and BS for a couple of hours.

Is impromptu better?
For Group B above, yes.  For Group A, no.

If invites are sent out - how far in adavance?
If you know the invitees are generally easy going about their schedules, a couple of weeks is usually good.  If they are more uptight about their leisure planning, a month is usually the minimum.

What has worked for you in the past?
Providing the beer and/or location.

Prefer to be the host/hostess?
It's impossible for me to be a hostess, so I would have to be a host.

..or just help the host a little bit?
If it's your house, you are the host by default.  If it is someone else's house, always offer to help, but generally, it isn't your problem.

What do you folks prefer?
Relatively small number of people, in a comfortable setting, either a private home, a bar, doesn't matter to me so long as we're not moving, dancing etc all the time.

What do you think makes a good party?

Good company.

How much preparation?
Doesn't really matter.

Is impromptu better?
Generally, yes.

If invites are sent out - how far in adavance?
Doesn't matter to me.

What has worked for you in the past?
A wide variety of types of parties. Prepared in advance, not prepared in advance, with/out booze, with/out dinner, different types of hours, etc. The critical thing for me is *who* I'm partying with. The Company. Good Company = Good Party.

Prefer to be the host/hostess?
Doesn't really matter.

..or just help the host a little bit?

That too. That's cool.

-OR-
Alcoholic drinks available?

With/out alcohol, soda, coffee, water... I'm fine with it.
I like my comfort though. So I like to have the choice, first.
