This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Not a big surprise.

In early 1992 over 60% of the country said in a poll that they were fans of STAR TREK in one way or another. Not all to the same degree of course.

That then prompted SATurday Night Live to do a parody sketch that had all the then- runnning Democratic candudates competing for possible votes at a Star Trek convention.

That was one of the better sketches I had ever seen related to TREK.

The thing is, STAR TREK fans have the same political percentage mix as the rest of the population.  No one party or viewpoint tends to dominate.

This article reads like it is desperately trying to make Obama look like he is a Star Trek fan even though the evidence provided is nothing conclusive. I think it is pandering since the new Star Trek movie has been released and will be the current focus of pop culture for the season.
"Meh."

JongWK

Considering that he admitted collecting Spiderman and Conan comics in the '70s, it's not a big stretch to imagine him as a Trekkie.

Agreed, all it takes is a lack of evidence and a willing suspension of disbelief, which the Politico is providing with that article. AFAIK, no reporter has bothered to ask the President whether or not he is a trekkie, so we do not know. Although the article certainly suggests that he is.
"Meh."

Dr Rotwang!

Maybe the dude just wants to see a movie that he thinks looks bitchin'.  Hell, if I were president, I'd totally do my math like this:

(Command Performance + Movie I Wanna See) - (Dorks Who Won't Shut Up + That Dumbass With The Cellphone) = Clear My Schedule And Pour Me A Cream Soda
Dr Rotwang!
...never blogs faster than he can see.

Callous

I applaud Dr Rotwang math!  Being President really ought to get you a movie screening as a perk at least once in a while.
