This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Voros;968161The other ones I mentioned are card/boardgames. And yeah apparently there was a legit Alien RPG in the late 80s although apparently it may have been a board game too.

Aliens Adventure Game? By I believe Leading Edge Games? David McKenzie wrote it. He also did the obscure Lawnmower Man RPG.

Quote from: Omega;968142You complained about the ease of them being killed with guns. The one in the original was just as easily killable if theyd had that option. That doesnt make it harder to kill.

No, actually, I didn't. I never even used the word guns. You're making that up to defend your self-contradictory response. Also, you seem to have difficulty with what the words "easy" and "hard" mean in this context.

Ras Algethi

Quote from: Dumarest;968021Didn't that make it hard to kill? You seem to contradict your own assertion.

Seems like he saying it wouldn't be hard to actually kill it but after you kill it there are going to be problems (with the acid).

Alien Covenant was a perfectly fine movie to watch as far as entertainment goes... but as a "Alien" film, I found it disappointing. I really dislike the super-fast facehugger to chestburster to full-grown alien cycle that seems to have become the norm since the AvP movie(s). It removes all the tension regarding that part of the alien life cycle. It seems to be mucking up the timeline. Alien seemed to indicate the eggs ship they found was essentially ancient with a fossilized pilot and doesn't make a whole lot of sense down with the origin of the Aliens as shown in Covenant. The Engineers angle just feels glossed over. You could effectively remove them from the movie and would it have changed all that much?

Then he should have said that instead of what he wrote.

Leading Edge Games, 1991. Here's a rather poorly-written overview:

It had "Spider grenades" that you could throw and little robot legs would pop out and they would chase your foes around the battlefield before exploding. That is literally the only thing I remember about it.

After seeing Alien Covenant, anyone who complains about Alien 3 or Alien 4 gets nut punched.

I am shocked Ridley could crap out like that. He rolled a 1 on his Director saving throw.

The Martian was fucking fantastic. Kingdom of Heaven was underrated. His other recent movies... Well, Momma used to say something about how if you couldn't say anything nice...

His work has gone from "Must see" to "50/50 throw of the dice".

I loved the Martian. The Director's Cut of Kingdom of Heaven is excellent.

His first film The Duelists is amazing.

YES. Criminally underrated and under-seen.

I think The Duelists is one of those films that may have never or at least very limited release during the VHS boom. It was also M.I.A. on DVD. Having read about it for years I was excited to get it on Blu and it did not disappoint.

Here's the trailer for anyone not familiar with The Duellists

The cast is impressive. I'd forgotten Alun Armstrong (from Krull) was in it.

I was lucky enough to see it during college at a UCLA film festival. It's $3 on YouTube and easily worth far more.

I was so looking forward to this. I liked the idea of shaw and David finding the engineers and confronting them. I limed the idea that David, as a created being, was forced to obey his creator and did horrible things at his command but after his death David was free, and chose to help shaw of hkjs own volition. And maybe shaw could forgive David for what he had done under his creator's control.

Then Shaw and David, both created beings, go to face humanities creator and ask them why they wanted to destroy humanity, and for the created to confront the creator and say "I/we didn't ask you to create me/us, and you have no right to destroy us now that we are alive!"

Yes it could have been wonderful. Could have explored themes that should have been explored in balderunner.

So what they fuck do they do with these beautiful, wonderful possibilities?

Kill off shaw and turn David into yet another insane/evil robot android AI that must "kill all humans! Kill all humans!"

My tears flowed like rivers...
