Found this on Youtube while looking fr something else:

Thats supposedly the top 10 tjeme song intro of 80s cartoons.

Half of them have 4 to 5 main Heroes working as a team - definitely the basic RPG character group idea.

This was the song & video I was originally looking for, from The Adventures of The GALAXY RANGERS :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hSMzrWZCAE&NR=1
"No Guts,, No Glory" by The Galaxy Rangers!

Galaxy Rangers actually had pretty good writing at times compared to most shows on at the time.

Interesting as I have been meaning for MONTHS now to do a blog posting about making RPG campaigns based on just what we see in those openings and what game system would be best to use.

"I" didn't miss anything - look at the details would you ?? It was someone else's list that I posted a link to. There are only 4 or 5 in that "Top 10" list that I really agree with .

Oh and this version of "Airwolf" plays better visually on my computer:

Nope pretty happy with my monitor thanks. But I would drive to Cinci to help you destroy your crap monitor by the power of AK-47. Although that might not be construded as the most constructive use of either of our time.:)

I cant find it now but I probably have it on one of my flash drives, but if you want awesome cartoon inspirations for RPGs I have a file of nearly 2 hours in length.  Its giant robot anime openings from the 60s all the way till 1995.

From Tetsujin 28 (Gigantor) through Gao Mothafuckin GaiGar.

It is epic.  It makes me want to buy hordes of toys.

Original japanese themes for Voltron (all of them), the shows that became Robotech and Macron 1?  The inferior but still good Saber Rider theme?  The other show that Battletech got most of the original 14 from?  The place a couple Transformers who were never on the show were from?

Its in there.

And damn you now I am watching bits of it again.

And many of them SCREAM for a Cartoon Action Hour, D6, BRP, or Mekton 2 campaign.  Preferably one I can scream and yell my attacks.
To do otherwise is not only failing to get the hot blooded manly heroic passion of giant robot action, but is also.. uncivilized.

(My file was called OPcollectionsofrobots.avi.  It doesn't really want to be fullscreen on a modern high res megascreen though.  Of course most of the openings were clearly nth generation copies that somehow survived the years and got online.  I used to have a list of what every single show was.  TONS of these shows have either gotten remakes or at least one 00s era high quality high priced collector's toy, many of which look BETTER than their animated version!  I don't have a host otherwise I would pop it up for folks to DL and glory in.)

Here is the apparent list of all the shows covered, with timestamp:

Im aware.  Its more for the non mechaheads and all.  To entice the ARGH ANIME ARGH people to find it and watch.

There are also some machines from Crusher Joe in old BT as well, except its more aerospace and armor outside of the Locust.

(And Crusher Joe isn't in the show list.  Nor are the multiple Transformers series even though its spiritual sequels, the Brave series is.  No Machine Robo (Gobots) either.  Kind of wierd omissions IMHO.  No OVA openings either.  So no Men of Destiny from Gundam 0083.  Few second openings listed either..  Its still 2 damned hours of robot openings.  But a complete one would be closer to 230..)

I don't remember much about Pole Position.  I remember the cars were cool.  The opening was not to be missed.  But the rest of the show was just so-so.  If it weren't for the fact it aired at the end of Saturday morning when the pickings were slim, I probably wouldn't have often watched past the opening.

Still, it was more Knight Rider than any of the Knight Rider attempts after the end of the original series.  I'd buy a DVD set if there was a North American release.

I recently purchased the first DVD set for Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers.  I had been extremely fond of it back when it was new.  I remembered it as being inferior to Robotech, but still head and shoulders above the other typical US toy commercial toons.  So, when I got the DVD set and watched it again for the first time in 20 years, I have to admit I found it almost irredeemably cheesy.

But the opening is still undiluted awesome.  And it's a better generic space opera campaign reference than just about any RPG book.

Around the same time as Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers, there was also this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4AjEZy7J6M

Beverly Hills Teens was my second guilty pleasure toon (Jem was the main guilty pleasure).  It aired on weekdays directly before Galaxy Rangers, so I almost always watched it.  I always thought it would be great Teenagers From Outer Space material.

And for some completely batshit insane reason, I thought The Catillac Cats would make a good basis for a campaign.  The Catillac Cats were the second half of a Heathcliff cartoon:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxI5fSp1cco

I guess it would have made sense if I had been thinking of a Toon game, or something like that.  But I genuinely was thinking of it as the basis for some kind of gritty, anthropomorphic street gang war game.  I guess I caught some of the fumes from those metalhead D&Ders I met back then.
