This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A strange little slice of life manga based on rpgs
« on: November 19, 2022, 07:41:17 PM »
Hi, I came here today to share a little manga I just finished reading called Quick Start!! a cute little 4 koma about high school girls playing rpgs. If you don't know what manga is, it's a "style of Japanese comic books and graphic novels, typically aimed at adults as well as children" according to Oxford Languages. Pretty much it's japan's main version of comics. Now if you don't know what a 4 koma is (which I didn't until I read Quick Start!!) a type of manga style with four panels of equal size from top to bottom, example in attachments. Think the little comics you can find in newspapers and magazines like garfield but, from top to bottom. The manga itself is filled with references and in-jokes about popular rpgs in japan providing a interesting insight in what games are popular over there and what there like. However, this isn't the only appeal of the manga as there's plenty of jokes and scenarios that are "universal" to playing rpgs providing tons of enjoyment even for those that don't know a lot about the japanese rpg scene. Overall it's a pretty cute manga and it can be quite fascinating at times if your interested in japanese rpgs. However, there hasn't been a official english translation released so you'll have to read a unofficial fan translation if you want to read it in english. You can find all the translated chapters at https://mangadex.org/ if you search for it there. Thanks for reading!

It looks a bit like K-ON! only with gamers instead of musicians. I liked K-ON!, so I will have to check it out.

Thank you for posting this!
