trouble logging into sites with firefox

So, the computer here continues to have weird effects. Now it seems that I can't log into some of the sites i usually log into.  Nor can the Wench.  Yahoo mail, msn mail, facebook, all of these register as "page load errors".

It doesn't work in either firefox, or IE. other login site, like xanga or therpgsite, work just fine.

Yes. I should also note that //www.yahoo.com actually works fine, just the mail/login option doesn't work.

Tools > Delete Private Data

See if that works. Also, check for any Firefox add-ons she might have.

Other than that, I have no clue.

we tried clearing the data, nothing happened.  
She has no extensions, and only the standard theme and plugins. Also, note that the same problem is happening in Internet Explorer, strangely, so it doesn't seem to be a firefox specific problem.

Hmm, apparently the problem may have had something to do with the latest firefox update; though why that would also affect Internet Explorer is odd...

I don't know about getting rid of Vista, but it does do some rather goofy stuff.  All that elevating permissions, and it stores your session data in a different directory to protect the system and so on.  I have seen an article or two about conflicts with Data Execution Prevention causing Firefox crashes.  Kill all the extensions the re-enable them one at a time.

Firefox and IE don't share a cache, however, so clearing one or filling one  really shouldn't affect the other.  I have seen some crazier shit with computers, however, so I can't discount it out of hand.
