Quote from: S'mon;1046381I think if Jeremy Crawford takes WoTC to full Marvel Comics level, where the core products are being seriously damaged, #DnDGate could take off. Certainly D&D 6th edition could be a massive clusterfuck of Social Justice. But not yet.

"Drow are evil because they're cishet".  We're already there dude.

I'm sure Gary Gygax's lady drow were bicurious at the very least.

I heard about that cosplay story but I thought it was a freaknerds fantasy

D3 Vault of the Drow doesn't exactly go in to the specifics but you can definitely see shades of it yeah.

Fortunately unlike Mearls and the Moral Botherers who want to play D&D now Gary really didn't think it was super duper important to dwell on that sort of thing.

The entire forum is first world problems. People with too much free time griping about stuff that doesn't affect their lives. You can't get more first world problem than that.

Drow are problematic because originally they kind of represented the stereotype of Evil Man-hating Feminists.

Fortunately, the Identity Politics crowd managed to re-invent them as Evil Trans-Exclusionary Rad-fems.

Drow arent feminist. The society is just not geared for males advancing the same way females do. And those rules are set down by a demon goddess thingy who makes sure it stays that way. Probably for the chuckles. And in some of the older source material depending on the setting there isnt even that. They are just an evil elf race with neither gender being played up.

Drow treat males of their species the way spider do. I thought that was glaringly obvious.

Sadly, I have had to explain to people who play AD&D1e with me that no, Gary didn't create the Drow because he hated black people.

He created the name (maybe), but he certainly didn't invent Svartálfar.
