SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Without PMs how do I contact the Powers?

I was going to engage the Powers that Be in a conversation, but I don't have sufficient privileges to send a PM yet, is there another way to do this without cluttering up the meta forum?

Well, you're not THAT far from being able to PM.

Just start up some threads on your favourite RPG topics.  You'll help flesh the forums out *and* gain xp.  :insert win smiley here:

Okay, well here goes...

Should we discourage asshattery threads?

We're not an offshoot, we're not really connected to the diaspora, save by timing, we're forming our own new and dynamic place. The fact that so many of these new places have people in common is going to mean word will spread from place to place to place of things posted at one, but not at another... (sometimes I have trouble keeping up with what was said where, by whom, etc.)

Now that said. maybe I'm lapsing into my old habits of overanalyzing everything and worrying too much what others may think of us.

I don't want the Original Poster to think of this as an attack on them, which is why I would have had this conversation via PM vs. in-forum., however I think a thread like that can grow and grow as new links are added, etc.

Sorry if this is the first whine/complaint of the board, but this is why I bring it up:

Seeing a post like:
Quote from: TrollTroll like peace and quiet.  Drama ruin Troll nap.
Makes me think there should be less elitism and more community.

Troll thinks you make good point.  Troll will think and talk with other kith.

I actually agree with the Beanbag - I enjoy drama at times, but some places should be drama-free zones. Not saying that people should always play nice, but this place seems like it should have less of a mean streak. And, y'know, there are lots of other places for asshaberdashery threads.
"suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness."

Name Lips

There's already an "asshattery" thread at SO. I wondered why we needed another one here. There will be enough drama just setting up an RPG forum that may or may not pull people away from ENworld. No need to amplify it with such threads.
Next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways, it's still rock and roll to me.

You can talk all you want about theory, craft, or whatever. But in the end, it's still just new ways of looking at people playing make-believe and having a good time with their friends. Intellectualize or analyze all you want, but we've been playing the same game since we were 2 years old. We just have shinier books, spend more money, and use bigger words now.

I agree with Billy.  If were trying to get more psters and visitors it stanfs to reckon a good number off them are going to be ENWorlders and we don't want to alienate them.  Plus like Name Lips said there's already threads like it at SO and very healthy ones I might say.

Most importantly for me, I think we should just ignore a certian other RPG board.  Part of why I'm here is that the asshats *aren't* here.  I don't want to attract their attention and summon them here.

Just my own 2 coppers on the matter.  :)

Troll would encourage little ones go to SO if they wish to continue flaming.  Troll will not close thread.  Troll is only making suggestion.

Troll might not be smart, but Troll, I think, is WISE.

Confuse-us say "Old habits die hard."  I suppose he means that posting habits take a while to change.  The community has been through some small changes in the last two weeks and I really want to give folks a chance to get their bearings straight. Asshattery threads are great for the forums they are great for, but I'm not quite sure they're in sync with what I have planned for this place. That said I'm not taking any immediate action because, again, old habits die hard.

So the unofficial line is they are discouraged but not banned.
