This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

WARNING: There Is a Predator on RPG Sites

Hi All

I am like many of you, a member on more than one site. Having come across this thread on another one of my stops I decided it was definitely worth sharing.

Predator on RPG Sites

As you can see it also states that said individual is on other RPG sites, so I figured this was worth sharing so that everyone is aware of the issues and the danger. I have PM'd a Mod so hopefully they will sticky this or something, and anyone who is contacted in the manner in the linked thread report it immediately and maybe between us all we can ensure that those members that have received contact know that they are not alone and something can be done.

Interesting.  It states that this person has been ruining women's lives for years on RPG sites.  If that's the case SOMEONE has to know the real ID of this person...  A list of handles, something.  They should publish enough info to ID the perp.

Apparently the staff on that site haven't listed them, for various legal reasons. Although if you read through the thread a couple of users do mention a couple of names. Plus the fact that an Admin has posted the thread should indicate it's seriousness. So it is best for us all to work together and ensure that everyone reports such antics should they arise, and not ignore them. Better safe than sorry I say.

Moved this to the Help Desk so mods and admins can see it for what it is (relating to the site, not RPGs proper). Thanks for the heads-up.

I think the saddest thing is targeting women on RPGs forums. It's like trying to target men at a handbag's shop.
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don't Like You thread should be closed

It depends on the site, where the link is from there are a lot of women RP'ing on there. And as mentioned in it many on that site are from broken homes etc and do it just to escape. So it isn't so much sad - as totally predatory and as such totally abhorrent behaviour.

Sounds like more witchhunt bullshit.

"He plays to sympathies, kindness and the loneliness of young girls and women to get them to do what he wants, and when they do he proceeds to destroy their lives."

Destroys their lives???

But no police reports and no legal actions. Just destroyed lives.

"Do not think you can handle him yourself if you're being harassed by this person, let us help you."

Nope. No way a woman could possibly hit the Delete button all by herself. Them poor females don't even know how to report something that happens to them. And everyone knows that having titties nukes your ability to possibly comprehend how to use any blocking settings on a forum. Those poor, poor girls!!!

I was thinking that most of the women who come here are more than capable of ripping someone a new asshole.
"Meh."

Yeah, I'm with Spinachcat.  Deeds of this alleged predator?  Nope, none of those.  Identity of this alleged predator?  Nope, none of that.  Just pure vapor.  Whose word are we taking for this fellow's purported depredations, anyway?

Now I know the temptation to protect our wee innocent girlies from the Wicked Wicked Men, but eeesh.
This was a cool site, until it became an echo chamber for whiners screeching about how the "Evul SJWs are TAKING OVAH!!!" every time any RPG book included a non-"traditional" NPC or concept, or their MAGA peeners got in a twist. You're in luck, drama queens: the Taliban is hiring.

I have to agree it looks odd, or even like a good cop bad cop maneuver.

But unfortunately sometimes stuff like this does happen and nothing is done about it. Sometimes because the person doing it puts up a really good front of seeming innocent or painting the victem as the villain. I've also seen admin take an "Its not our problem" or "just put it on ignore."

I've had two accounts of this happening at LARPs and really have to wonder why no one did anything?

Worse. Ive been tracking since the mid 90s a former friend who was the online equivalent of a serial emotion rapist. Draw someone in with this story of how previously they were betrayed by a former friend and how they neeeeed a loving friend like the new mark... and after getting really close -  turn on them. Then paint them as the vile betrayer to the next victem so any warnings will be met with hostility. One of his buddies defended it with the old gag of "Hey its just words. Words cant hurt you." followed by "Oh yeah. He does that to people face to face too. No big deal."

Friend of mine who used to get commission art ran into no less than two artists who would not do art for her unless she "proved" she was a "real woman" by giving out her phone number so they could "verify". Both vanished around 2001. Personally as an admin on a site I banned one player for pulling a similar stunt. Unfortunately he just moved to an online chat where the admin do not care.

As for the source of the OP. Who knows. I've seen a-lot of absolutely fucked up stunts on and off forums over the years.

These are stupid things to say. So yeah, judging by this last comment it is pretty freaking serious.

It should probably be bourne in mind that your average RPG forum doesn't exactly budget for libel lawsuits. Unless Roleplayer Guild is a complete cesspit of moderator corruption - and I don't know it well enough to say whether it is or not - I suspect the admins there have access to a bunch more additional details they don't want to share with the public so as not to get sued (or, indeed, so as not to derail any legal or police processes that are ongoing).
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don't want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It's pretty chill so far.
