SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Technical issues - registering or "re-registering"

A friend from another forum site tried to post or register on here yesterday and the forum registration process asked her for a 'reference'. Thats weird - because I remember registering and not being asked for a referral.

Also, she has posted at least ONCE before - I think she may have forgotten her password. Or the system "forgot" her.

As for references? Pundit himself and someone else encouraged me to invite her on here.

Tech types/Admins - would this be easier as a PM?

It asks for a reference, but it doesn't require one. I don't understand what the problem is.

Ignoring the references, one of the problems is that because the address for the site's email is a yahoo site, some people's mail program automatically filter messages sent from the yahoo addy as if it was spam; so people end up never getting their confirmation emails and such.

If your friend was "gamergirl" I believe this is what happened, when she tried to change her email.

Ask her to try from a different email (one that won't bounce the yahoo addy) or if she trusts you, you could PM me, I could approve her registration and assign her a temporary password, and then she could log in (after that she could PM me again to ask me to change the password or something, but its really a piecemeal solution because any change she tried to make that required email confirmation would be a problem for her).

The bigger thing is that we should really get a new email for the group that wasn't a web-based mail address. Unfortunately, I've brought this up with the admins and until now I haven't had any volunteers (I only use Yahoo, myself).

Sometimes it doesn't matter. Any message and many email addresses can get flagged as spam under the right conditions. When we move servers, we can switch to our own email address.

Thanks Guys,

I have forwarded this info onto her and sent her a link to this thread.

 And yeah - its GamerGirl.

I think her town or suburb's internet connection changed recently, that may or not have something to do with it as well.
