This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

STOP POSTING RIP THREADS UNLESS THEY ARE RELATED TO RPGs.
Hey Brett. It's related to RPGs! Many gamers around here know Dio and have used his music either for gaming or inspiration. Why is it somehow not appropriate for the site? Granted, we could have done a better job at demonstrating why Dio's passing is relevant to gamers, but still.

Furthermore, it's not in the RPG section, it's in the Media & Inspiration section for God's sakes!

Exactly - for those of us who grew up in the 70s/80s, the metal music scene influenced our gaming in huge ways, from the look to the sounds. So it is perhaps just tangentally related, but still there IS a connection. :)

That said, one thread per rocker please.

Death notices are not inspiration for gaming and this isn't rpg.net Tangency.

Really? Because between re-reading Holmes D&D and listening to some metal after Dio's passing, I find myself inspired aplenty, RPG-wise.

You're the first one to make that claim. You would have said that of the Pundit's forum, you might have had a point, but Media & Inspiration? Yeah... That's a stretch, IMO.

Good job there mod. While I agree completely with Benoist on this one, your reply is the equivalent of "I'm taking my ball and going home".

Crock of shit over-modding here. Dio's music was largely based on fantasy, hell, watch the Holy Diver video if you do not believe. Brett, you're proving yourself to be a grade A clod, am I seeing typical anti-metal bias here?

Media and Inspiration is not like the general RPG forum. It is also not for random thoughts, only for things that relate to or inspire RPGs, but outside of the hobby. Discussion of music would be related or inspiration, but notice of someone's death is not. Focus on what was accomplished to inspire RPGs, not the fact there is a death.

Yeah. so when Kevin Siembieda dies, or another legend of the RPG industry dies, I'll remember this statement when a R.I.P. thread comes up about them. A lot of us gained a lot if inspiration from Black Sabbath w/ Dio and Dio's solo band, for our RPGS. Just as you might from listening to Enya or some other bland crap.

Moron, Kevin Siembieda is an RPG figure. Musical groups are not. That's the difference. Talk about something constructive in the Media/Inspiration forum. You didn't even post in any of those threads, so stop being a pain in the ass.

Actually, I was the first one who posted one of the fucking threads, shit-for-brains. You basically said that DEATH is off-topic. And when a RPG figure dies, that death is off topic. These R.I.P.s were posted in "MEDIA AND INSPIRATION", numbnuts, and I am pointing out that DIO served as plenty of fucking inspiration for gaming. Now, get your fucking thumb out of your ass and quit acting like this is RPGnet. You are overmodding, and if you cannot see it, YOU are the fucking moron.

My mistake. I didn't realize you started a thread. If this were rpg.net, you would have been banned by now.

I'll say this one more time so even you can understand it. Media and Inspiration is for things to inspire RPGs, not to wallow in someone's death. If you want to talk about DIO and how DIO served as inspiration for gaming, go ahead. No one will stop you. Sure, you can bring up the RIP in the thread, but not as a central focus. And talk about it, don't just post a link. If you want to post a link about someone's death or otherwise write an obituary, don't, because it just waste's server space and slows down the site.

MEDIA and INSPIRATION is not rpg.net tangency. It is not an excuse to post whatever you want. It is for constructive discussion. Obituaries are not constructive. On the other hand, discussing how a band, movie, TV program, novel, etc. influenced your gaming IS constructive.

And you squashed the threads before they got to discussing the RPG relevant inspirations from Dio. More often than not, most threads on this board DO sway into non-rpg tangents. More often than not, the posts are allowed to remain. be consistent.

Ok, this here is basically the guideline for how to make threads related to someone who was not directly from the RPG industry and who died: write about their work and how it relates to your gaming, not about their death.

Note that you can feel free to mention their passing in a thread about how they were inspirational; just yeah, I don't really want to see a long thread full of obituaries about how Michael Jackson was a great musician.  I'm sure that for some of you Dio was quite different from Michael Jackson, but the point is that if you start "obituary"-themed threads about the former, it would basically give carte blanche about the latter.

So purely "RIP" threads on this site (except in the Pundit's Forum, and then only for figures of interest to me) should be limited only to people who were directly part of the RPG industry. If you want to write a thread about J.R.R. Tolkien, write PRIMARILY about how he influenced your gaming, not about his death or life events.
