SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Adding mod to ignore list.

There is a specific individual (a mod) who I'd rather not see. Nothing to do with their modding, just a personality clash.

I don't want to make a big deal of it. I don't want to complain about them. I don't want to announce it, or ragequit.

I just want to add them to my ignore list so I can quietly go about reading the rest of the site. But (as I found out) I can't.

Why can't one add a mod to their ignore list?

It's written into the software for pretty much any forum out there.  The mods are the ones enforcing whatever rules or etiquette are in place, and the ability to ignore them would prevent them from warning or censuring someone.  It's essentially the same reason you can't 'ignore' the police or a security guard.

Just ignore whatever he/she/it says and you'll be fine.

"Ignore" exists for a reason. Yes, mods should be able to make official declarations that are un-ignorable. But failing such declarations, one should be able to ignore them just as one would any poster.

Especially if a mod is being... strongly unpleasant, let's say.

I don't know if the vBulletin software is built to include such an option, but it would be welcome.

Do you feel the mod is specifically stalking or harassing you? Do you feel like he's specifically going to threads just to troll or insult you?  Using mod powers inappropriately?

Or do you just get annoyed by the things this mod says?

If its any of the former, you should please let me know.
If its the latter, well, your best bet is just to develop a thicker skin at ignoring him.

I don't have anyone on ignore (really, no mod should), and believe me there are people I find annoying.  I learn to just look past that.

I haven't IL'd anyone, even BT. I just tend to roll-eyes a lot when I see certain posts. (And I'm quite sure a few posters do the same to me).

I didn't want to talk about it. Still don't.

I had a problem with a poster, I wanted to add them to my IL. Quietly, without any fuss. Without anyone other than me knowing it happened.

No announcements in the thread, no whining about them in PM, no complaints to the Pundit, no taunting the poster. Just Ignore them.

Saves me aggravation, avoids forum drama, fixes the problem.

I understand if policy or the software prevents this. Your board, your rules.

But if mods participate as posters, and are obnoxious as posters, then people may want to Ignore them. And people should be able to ignore obnoxious posters, even mods (unless the mod is acting in an official capacity). That's why Ignore exists.

Just my opinion.

I have my answer, though, and I'm not going to complain about it any more. Consider the matter dropped.

Fair enough, you have that right. But I mention for you, and everyone else, that if anyone feels they are seriously being harassed by a mod here, they should bring it up with me, and doing so (via PM) might very well not get you the result you want, but it'll never get you in trouble.
