This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Can anyone recommend a good RPG forum that isn't tainted by this "war" nonsense?

Quote from: WarthurThere's the thing, occasionally the flamewars throw up fun and interesting points I like to debate. Would I get caught up in your ignore list then?

I don't know. It would depend on the topic and the posts. "Vigorously" is left intentionally vague so I can nudge it when necessary. :)

Do you consider Q&A threads like the one with Luke or Tony to be war-related?  I mean, I think it's perfectly fine to have that kind of relatively polite conversation, IMHO.

Do they belong in Role-Playing Game?  Doubt it. But sometimes that's hard to know because some of the questions will be about a game (like Luke's BW or Tony's Capes), but others will be about those peoples' views on gaming and game design.

Again, it would depend on the topic and the posts in question. If you're asking someone questions about game related stuff and not arguing about how evil the Forge, RPG.net, or theRPGsite are I'd read or ignore depending on my mood, but not permanently ignore anyone because of it.

Also, this would just be an experiment. It's far from some sort of Final Solution. Too many people whose opinions I respect get caught up these things for it to be anywhere near permanent. I'm just interested in how many threads would degenerate to a string of "This person is on your ignore list" system messages, and how quickly it would happen.

i think anyone who starts a war thread, or even brings it up in another, should then start a new thread ABOUT GAMES, OR GAMING, WITHOUT ANY WAR CLAPTRAP as penance.

JM's IL idea sounds fun, as a lark.  do it just for a couple of days and record what happens. . . .

In answer to the original question -

SJ games forum is obviously focused on their game lines, but there's a "Roleplaying in General" subforum which gets a small amount of traffic, but quality stuff. You get genuine professional game designers like Sean Punch and Bill Stoddard commenting there, which I think is a bonus - they obviously know their shit. And even in the game-specific subforums, you'll find a lot of general rpg talk, how to get and keep a group, and so on.

Levi's GameCraft forums have good content, but low traffic. Though perhaps an energetic poster could change that ;)

Though if you're sick of rpg.net and therpgsite, I'd suggest that perhaps you're just tired of internet discussion in general. Maybe a bit sated and jaded. It happens. Take a break.

Quote from: Dr Rotwang!Or, you could ignore all this goddamn fucking stupid "war" bullshit and just talk games.
Quoted for truth.

For example, some of the questions in the Q&A: Luke Crane thread were making me sick. It was cool to see people asking why Burning Wheel and Burning Empires are designed a certain way. Cool stuff, asking the designer the whys, just talking about games. But certain people only wanted to catch Luke in a rhetorical trap:

Your typical rpgsite swine wars warrior: Luke, would you fuck a 15 year old girl?

If he answers no:

Luke: Hmm, no, that would be illegal

Your typical rpgsite swine wars warrior: But she looks like a woman...

Luke: Nope

Your typical rpgsite swine wars warrior: LIAR! SWINE!

If he answers yes:

Luke: Yeah, sure!

Your typical rpgsite swine wars warrior: PEDERAST!! SWINE!!

So atheists have been abused, treated badly by clergy or they\'re stupid.They\'re just being trendy because they can\'t understand The God Delusion because they don\'t have the education, plus they\'re just pretending to be atheists anyway. Pundit you\'re the one with a problem, terminal stupidity.

Why the fuck can't I resurrect an old thread? Is there a fucking specific law against it?
If you don't like it then ask Pundit to change my name to necromancer, necrophile or Resurrector!:p :D

Ok, look. I have no problem with people posting on old threads, as long as what they post is something that somehow ADDS to the conversation.
You have a very bad habit of picking threads that are very old, and often controversial, and then resurrecting them by posting something utterly useless and fucking irrelevant.

Stop it.

Well, since this got necro'd, I'll suggest my forum RPG Admix.

Right now I have a recruitment drive going on where if you come over and participate on the forums you will be entered into a drawing for free games.

RPG Admix is has no war against the forge, swine, white wolf or anyone else. All gamers who play any rpg are equally welcome and will not be railed against for your views.

Yet another "We're just like theRPGsite but without the Pundit" heartbreaker-forums... those always do SO well...

Sorry, but no.

Trolls will be dealt with over there, though if you want to curse like a sailor and argue thats fine. Obvious trolling will be taken care of and more effort to keep threads on topic will be made.

Overall i'm going for a slight bit more moderation than here but a ton less than RPG.net. No overreaching personalities will overpower the site and all gamers with all gaming styles and theories will be welcome.

People, will come and post if they want. I'm not against The RPG Site, I have more posts here than anywhere else by far and I plan to continue posting here. I think there are enough people who don't like this site or RPG.net (fir whatever reasons they might have) that might find my fourms interesting. They will be up and running for atleast a year and I will be doing my best to attract posters.

You can't be surprised than not everyone like the rpg site, and I'm not going to pretend that RPG Admix will be as big as RPG.net or anything but I think it has potential to provide another outlet for gamers to talk about gaming. No, I'm sure that there will be plenty of people who won't like RPG Admix but I hope that those that do post often about interesting things.
