This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

In this thread:

http://www.therpgsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7659

He starts off with a seemingly straightforward question, with just a quick phrase referring to the Forge in the OP:

Quote from: RPGPunditand that therefore Hackmaster is some kind of a "gamist" forgey masterpiece because of it,

He actually gets an answer from a few people and a long response from the company's representative.  Instead of following up on that answer, he sticks with his original question and again slips another swine reference in the last paragraph.

Quote from: RPGPunditor that you haven't bought the hype that a couple of fanatical Forgites have flung your way and made you believe that HM is somehow all about "strict gamism" or something

All very subtle, but now, you see as the thread goes on he turns it more and more towards GNS theory babblespeak and constant, finally dedicating an entire post to that, and thus revealing his true colours.

Quote from: RPGPunditIts the Forgites who have hijacked Hackmaster fandom, turning an entertaining parody game that also happens to be a great updated version of AD&D1e and trying to use it as "proof" that there is such a thing as a "gamist" game. Ironically, they do so by taking parts from the game which were obviously meant to be a joke making fun of some very old-fashioned conventions of the sort of things that were written in very old gamebooks that absolutely NO ONE ever took seriously.

I hesitate to ask for the thread to be moved to off-topic, because there is still a chance that some of the other participants may keep it about the subject at hand and maybe the company's representative will come back if he hasn't been totally scared away by having a bunch of pseudo-intellectual doublespeak shoved down his throat by a swinish viral marketer.  It's just kind of frustrating that we can't have a conversation about a game without a bunch of bullshit faux-theory coming in to muddy up the waters and drive everyone away.

Weren't you doing this same kind of crybaby shit on RPGnet about a d20 thread before you had a temper tantrum over there and then began posting here with the same tantrum?
"Meh."

I see what you did there.

Yes, but that was back when I believed in my own selfish, individual values.  Here at therpgsite, I've finally learned to shed my own brain-damaged preconceptions and accept the loud repetitive shouting of the majority.  At first, I just tried to diminish the swinish attacks by posting about actual games and roleplaying in-table issues, but I have learned that the swine is much more sinister than than and am now actively hunting out and revealing their attacks so others can benefit from the same learning I have finally accepted.

Yeah, and a bad job of it I must say.  It's the try where you remove all the context.

For, you see, the whole point of those questions is to try to understand if the game's next incarnation is going to fall for the theory babblespeak.

What other games do you like, walker?  I ask, because I want to be prepared for your puerile bullshit when someone expresses a dislike for anything on your list.

psst...and here's the kicker...I don't agree with pundit about this stupid "are you making this game a certain way to appeal to the forge crowd?" bullshit...makes no sense to me in this case...and to top it off, I think HM is just a really expensive joke...on everybody who took it to heart, whether seriously or not, for more than ten minutes....

Y'know, joke though this is, it points out one of the things I like about the RPGSite.  There's just no point to "reporting" on anyone else.  I'm glad that it's more likely to come up as a joke than as someone thinking it might actually have an impact.

Pundit will moderate as he sees fit.  Knowing that he doesn't give a rats ass about what other people think means that there's no motivation to present your case to Pundit ... which frees people from an incentive that really would have led them only to unhappy places.

Go RPGSite! :D

Oh, and Walker?  Please stop acting so much like a brat, 'kay?  'Kay.  Cool.

Okay, so maybe my strategy to try and fit in was too obvious.  Perhaps I'll be more like Tony, your constant whipping boy who pops up in between beatings to say "you guys are so cool!  One day maybe you'll even let me in the clubhouse!"

Or you could just fuck off back to RPGnet, if you hate this place so much.

I assure you, you wouldn't be missed.

Man, I hope the day never comes when I'm "let into the clubhouse."  Where would be the fun in that?  I've already got plenty of boards where I can go for that kind of welcome ... this one's the only place I can go where absolutely anything I say will be questioned and challenged.

I gather that you don't see that as a valuable thing in the way I do.  Honest question:  What are you aiming for in your interaction with the board?  Are you getting it?

Look, here comes the rest of the pack!  Pundit is watching down upon you and if he asks, I'll be sure to give you credit towards future head pats or even dog biscuits.

But let's get back to the business of the trolling swine.  I'm concerned that the level of viral infiltration has gotten so great that even negative reference to their "theories" is enough to further propagate their cause.  This is why the thread I quoted in my OP above is such a concern.  A simple question about a new version of Hackmaster seems now impossible to ask without being framed in irrelevant, obscure and faux-elitist theory.  I think now may be the time to start cutting of limbs in order to save the body.  Perhaps we should start at the head?

Entertainment, information, revenge.  In no particular order of priority.  Getting the first two (for the most part, when threads I'm interested in don't get bogged down with irrelevant swine-speak like the one I open this help ticket about), still working on the third.

Oooh, look at the hard man, getting his revenge on a message board by . . . posting to it a lot.

Yeah.  That'll show 'em.  Good plan there, Skip.

Yeah, but thanks for the support up until now anyways.  ;)

That's a bit harsh. He just wants to stick his flyers to the clubhouse door. ;) :D
