And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: James J SkachNo, you got branded as an ass for saying d20 players are narrowminded.  you did recant and attempt to salve the wounds by saying you were only speaking about the d20 players in your area - but let's be accurate about the history of your posts, here - K?

I was accurate.  Before you even jumped on board, I had a ton of people jumping down my throat when I said that I didn't like D20 but was curious about SWSaga in the market (turned out to be almost nil, which a few people accurately predicted; I guess I was a bit overexcited about the physical format).  Your furious defense of the narrowminded came later.

Dude - I don't like D20 either, but I don't go around trashing it.

I'll play in a D20 game if already know the people or I think it might be fun. Just don't believe my dislike of the game system is reason enough for me to toss venom and vitriol in places about it.

Walkerp, it was the presentation of your dislike...not the dislike by itself.

thats my opinion, your kilometerage may vary...

Quote from: KoltarThere are these really useful things called sheet protectors....

(You can even write on them  if you have the right kind of pen)

We did that with grease pencils for a long time with Rolemaster, although more for the combat trackers than the character sheets. But you can't put sheet protectors on all your books, and some snacks can ruin a mini's paint job if you don't realize the oils and acids are on there. Nobody wants to have to wash all their minis after each game. At least nobody here.

So we just drink sodas most of the evening, and take a break for dinner at some point. since you get bonus XP for bringing food and drink, we tend to eat pretty good. :)

1.

Also in favor of stained character sheets, constantly shifting dividing lines, and snacks both healthy and disgusting.

I want none on this board to abridge my freedom to dip my cheeto in foie gras while I rool/rawl play.

Invasion?

Other than the Poison'd thread I'm really not seeing it.

For what it's worth my vote goes for option #1. It'll all blow over soon enough, and I'd far rather the site remained an open forum where people can express their ideas freely. Enacting sanctions of the kind presented in the poll would have long term repercussions that would far outlast this tatty piece of torture porn masquerading as an RPG.

Better for all of us that it's roundly ignored. Stiff upper lip, and all that.

I voted 1.

I firmly belive in freedom first, everything else second. I like this boards because they allow discussion even if it is harsh. I do not wish this became just "anti-forge" doing the same they do - getting rid of opposition. I say let them come and face them. Face them and show them they are wrong.

You can´t show fetishists that their fetish is wrong.
It´s impossible.

I believe you'll find what you're looking for between your legs. Make daily use of those dangly bits you find there, don't just keep them for emergencies, or they might wither away and not be available when you really do need them.

Post about games you like. If others don't like them, fuck 'em. Some people will like them, and you can talk with those people. Whatever games you like or dislike, someone will disagree with you, whatever site you're on. Doesn't matter. Just go ahead and post about whatever you like.

I mean, like I keep saying: there's all this talk of how this place is all about "traditional" roleplaying, which to anyone sane means, "dice and cheetos and arguments about what hit points really are in D&D," and yet we've got a subforum for a fucking diceless game. DICELESS. Traditional my arse. So whatever crazy-arsed hippy shit you're into is going to find some fans here, believe me.

If Vincent Baker can post about his fantasies of seeing Keira Knightley raped and murdered, then you sure as shit ought to be able to post here about not liking d20.

Is this an addendum to Cheetoism or a new theory?

Naw, it's just basic discussion forum stuff. You have to be a bit thick-skinned to have discussions online without bursting into tears on a regular basis.

I was attracted to this forum originally because I thought it was going to be more open and free-wheeling than RPG.net, the Forge, EN World, etc.  I would guess that a lot of other people here were too.  I'll be disappointed if this turns out not to be the case.

I really don't understand the need for throwing out the baby with the bathwater here.  If a thread is getting out of control, close it, and if a game really, truly can't be discussed without the threads going crazy, then consider a topic ban for that particular game.  But what's being proposed is, frankly, ridiculous.

Like Balbinus said, how are you going to determine what games are OK and what aren't?  The point Kyle made about the Amber subforum is a good one too -- how the hell is Amber a traditional RPG?

Finally, instead of saying "Swine," name names already.  Stop hiding behind this silly playground namecalling.

My vote was also option one...

I linked to this place from rpg.net almost a year ago...I think I may have returned to rpg.net only 3-4 times since then (usually clicking through from a link on here!)

Why don't I hang out at rpg.net anymore? Because no one actually says anything there! They're all to afraid to say what they want because they will be banned for saying it. Freedom to talk about what RPG you wanted to...how you wanted to won my heart and loyalty. The fact that Pundit didn't use his powers to enforce his preferences impressed me more than anything!

This is supposed to be THE place to go for freedom of speech and strong debate/argument. This is supposed to be the place where all "RPG theory" was treated equal and NO theory was considered canon. Not mine, not Ron's and even not the moderators (Pundy's or Rotwang's or whomever).

This was also the place where the Mods would not subject the users to different rules they themselves would not follow. If schilling ones own game is against the rules, why are there 2 stickied threads about Pundit's new game at the top of Roleplaying Open? I say, let other people schill too! I can ignore them just as well without you going through all the trouble of banning them.
