Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: RPGPunditThe point is that I'm not going to be the one who bites the bullet while the rest of you get to pretend you don't entirely agree with me; you guys are always looking for me to "do something" but then when the moment comes to step up and actually fucking do something, none of you want to go on record about it.
Bugger off, mate! I wade in those threads up to my belly in flamey shit, that's stinky you know! But not everyone is as persistent as me. You can't hassle people just because they tire out.

If it involves pretending to be someone else and rolling dice and eating cheetos then it's a roleplaying game, and discussion of it belongs on therpgsite.

If it's a good or bad game, or has fucked-up fans or whatever, that can be sorted out in the discussion.
Quote from: Andy KThere's nothing wrong with maintaining a focus of "traditional/mainstream" gaming, and simply saying, "Yeah, I hear ya, it's an RPG, whatever. But it's not the focus of the site. So it goes in the Off-Topic forum". I think in the biz world they still refer to this as "focusing on core competencies".
Bullshit. What the fuck is "traditional/mainstream" gaming? I have here on my desk a copy of Burning Wheel - it's sitting on top of a copy of the AD&D1e DMG. So am I a "traditional/mainstream" gamer or not? Most gamers play a variety of games. I mean fuck, the Great Defender of Gamers RPGPundit himself made a special subforum for Amber which is fucking diceless, for pity's sake. Diceless! We may as well put on our leotards and do improv theatre.

Okay, so we have D&D in the main one. What about a D&D LARP? What about Vampire? What about Fate - you can use xp to change scenes, does that make it a "story game" or a "thematic game" and it gets moved? What if my D&D game has "Hero Points", did it just become a "hippy game" and gets moved? What about Trollbabe, a hippy dungeon crawl? What about Hackmaster, the postmodern LARP?

No, fuck that noise. They're all roleplaying games, and belong together.

All roleplaying game discussion belongs in the Roleplaying subforum. That's true whether someone wants to have a made-up category of "Thematic gaming" or "story-games" or whatever you like. In truth, those are all roleplaying games.

RPGPundit has told us time and again that this is not the place of free speech, but free speech about roleplaying games. And they're all roleplaying games. All of them. Bullshit categories, whether they come from the "adventure gaming" guy Settembrini, or the "story-gaming" guy Andy K, are still bullshit.

And sure as shit you don't want to ban "Swine". That just turns the place into another Forge, a circle jerk. Uncle Ronny himself should be able to come here and talk about his crappy games if he wants to. If we want to just talk to people we agree with all the time, why do we need discussion forums at all? Ron Edwards and Vincent Baker may enjoy their time in the indie-rpgs echo chamber, but that's not what I signed up for here. This is supposed to be the one discussion forum where anyone can talk freely about any roleplaying game. Non-Forgers get shut out or shut down at the Forge or story-games, there's enforced politeness with a Forger bias leading to simmering hostility at rpg.net, and the other sites are focused on a particular game line.

This place is supposed to be open to all for straightforward, honest and vigorous discussion. With no bullshit categories people made up to make themselves feel superior.

I want to hear about all kinds of roleplaying games, and to hear from all kinds of roleplayers. Don't cut up our hobby as you see fit. Fuck that.

That is some laser-like analysis, Kyle.  I am *totally* with you on this.

Probably not, but 4th ed. D&D clearly is because it contains second wind.

Go fuck yourself, you elitist piece of shit. My table hasn't had cheetos on it in decades. That shit gets on your books and fucks them up. Just because I don't eat the snack you worship, that doesn't make you special!

Bitch.

It's not a real character sheet unless it has cheetos, coke, salsa and pizza stains on it. I only ever had one roleplaying group with healthy snacks, and that group imploded embarassingly. Obviously the two things are connected. That's why I'll never eat a healthy snack in a game session again, that was too traumatic, it may even have caused me brain damage, but then the other gamers wanted healthy snacks which is as bad as being a serial killer anyway.

If Settembrini gets to have all "Thematic" games shunted off to some other subforum, then I DEMAND a new Cheetoist subforum to deal with games which require having snacks at the table.

Here's what I propose: if you have a view of the hobby which allows you to name certain styles of play by a capital letter - whether Gamist, Thematic, Cheetoist, Swine or whatever - then you should have your own subforum. We could add a new subforum each week! Eventually, therpgsite would become indistinguishable from a page of links to our gaming blogs.

That would be totally AWESOME and REALLY REALLY USEFUL AND INTERESTING.

Who said anything about healthy snacks? I just don't like unreadable character sheets. :)

J Arcane

Fuck the both of you.  I bring the good stuff wherever I eat, even if it's for a game.  Imported cheese, Swedish rye crackers and hummus, homemade yogurt dip, jambalya sandwich wraps . . .

Character sheets need character, you motherfucker.

I vote that the Clean Sheets bastards have their posts shunted to Off Topic. This forum is a place for people who stain their sheets!

Why isn't there the option to both ban the swine and forcibly move their threads to off-topic? Seriously, if this a problem then why go with half-measures.

There are these really useful things called sheet protectors....

You're absolutely right, jeff! There should also be an option, "use IP lookup to find their address, break into their house, leave rude notes on their refrigerators and steal their dice and cheetos."

Except for that fucker AndyK. I'd take all his dice except for the d4s, and scatter them around his house for him to step on.

How dare people like different games to me. :hissyfit:

I don't need dice.

Been a GM too long, got plenty of dice.

 Work at a game store.

 MORE dice there.

On slow days its too damn tempting to buy...more damn dice.

I voted #1.

As long as threads don't turn into spam or completely non-gaming-related bits, they should stay in the main forum.  I like talking about a lot of different games, small press, traditional, whatever the hell you want to call them.  We need to keep all actual RPG topics in there, and need to keep the Freedom To Call Bullshit through that.
