SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Sacrificial Lamb

Quote from: James McMurrayThanks to the advent of Ignore Lists and Self Control he's incredibly easy to ignore. All it requires is putting him on the list and then walking away from topics that get derailed because of him.

It doesn't take 3,000 people to ignore him, just the percentage of that group that can't keep their panties from bunching every time he opens his mouth and someone replies.

...:raise:  Okay. I see your point. I guess I'm just worried about everyone else. I'm skeptical that enough people will ignore him, but I'll drop it (for a while), and we'll see what happens.

I was agreeing with you, in a fashion.

Ah, gotcha.

Quote from: SeanchaiAnd it was his input that helped take RPGnet to where it is today. So if we are potentially on RPGnet's path, why would we want his input again? It's not as if he's a beacon of good judgement the first time around.

Because he's just admitted he was wrong?
And is now trying to make a sincere effort (IMO sincere) to try to figure out where he went wrong?

I don't understand you guys.  Don't you realize we need guys like Nox to establish the Coalition when they ley lines appear on earth.  Who else is going to form the organization that protects us from dimensional beings and rogues psionics?  Just like I'm depending on JimBobOz of establishing the city states of Melbourne and Perth in Australia.

Me, I have enough problems trying to prepare for when the SDF-1 crashes out here.

Because this site is for discussing RPGs. Not how much group x is inferior to group y.

Now, if we talk about racism our fictional games, that's fine. If DNox wants to talk about orkish oppression by elves...cool.

Even the off-topic section should have a semblance of civility.

Quote from: SettembriniOr, we´d foce-sig Dominus Nox with a disclaimer that he is known to make strange comments, or with a link to these threads right here.
Can we do this?  Sort of like making him wear a dunce cap in public.  I might actually support this idea.

Forcing someone to change their sig or title (like Pundit changing my title to his fantasy of me as a pretty girl) is passive aggressive bullying. Besides, if Nox is in the RPG section that forced sig may bias you against an otherwise useful post. If he's in OT you'll know he posts insane crap long before you read far enough to see his sig.

Is this something that happened in the past?  Right know your title appears to me as "Dragon King of Athas."

Still feel that way?

I started visiting RPGnet in 1997. I've watched it change and grow. And I've watched Cessna change from just another poster to the Administrator who came up with "creative" punishments and who set the tone for moderation at the site. I spoke with Cessna and the other moderators about their moderation many times, and they just don't get it. They don't get where moderation at RPGnet went wrong.

Or, alternatively, they know exactly what they're doing and the current state of affairs is intentional.

Either way, you can listen to their counsel, but I honestly don't see how they can help theRPGsite avoid becoming another RPGnet.

I have a new theory regarding Dominus Nox:

SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT HIM ALREADY.

You're all serving to do nothing but give him exactly the kind of attention he craves so much.  I suspect the biggest thing keeping him here even, is that he is getting the best ego-fellating he's gotten from any site he's posted on yet.

We've all had more than enough opportunity at this point to speak out peace on the subject, we've all stated our opinions.

So how about we just can the shit, leave Pundit to make whatever decision he chooses, and go back to talking about, I dunno, say RPGs?[/b]

After the consultation here, and a private one with Jrients, I have come to a decision regarding Dominus Nox.

Nox has not shown himself to be utterly disruptive to the site, or at least not to a level that is not arguable, or to a level that he should be banned completely, though he is cutting it awfully close.

However, I have come to the conclusion that Nox absolutely HAS shown himself to be utterly disruptive to the Off-Topic forum of this site.  As such, I'm taking action on this particular case.

Nox will be shut out from accessing the "Off Topic" messageboard. He will be expected to demonstrate reasonable behaviour in the other message boards (not threadcrap, stalk, or bring up OT stuff).

If, somewhere way down the line, he reforms himself and shows he's capable of mature behaviour, his access rights to OT might be restored.
If, on the other hand, he retaliates by threadcrapping, stalking/harassing specific users, continuing to post his tirades in places where they do not belong or generally disrupt the site in any other way (including through the use of sockpuppets), he will be banned.

Ya know, I just had a bizarre thought about the OAF's banning from OT.

OK, I used to go to OT as much as RP. There was no reason not to, and I had some interesting conversations with people.

But then the thing with the OAF blew up.  And I stopped visiting OT as much.  I still went, but I have to say when I think back on it, I found myself more and more wanting to avoid it.

Now he's gone, and I'm thinking I might start going back.

Maybe the OAF was really good for the forum.  Maybe he kept people out of OT and in the RP threads.

Sorry...just a thought that came to me when TonyLB responded to the OAF in a thread the OAF can't read - and I thought "Hey, he's gone, we can have OT discussion again without that shit storm flying in..."

We don't close threads around here as a general practice, but can I ask everyone to please just let this one go away?  We need some time to see if this new plan is going to work and I certainly feel like the topic has been talked to death.  If you have any concerns, you can always PM me or the Pundit.

Or, you know, ignore this request and carry on.  Or start a new thread.  From my perspective there's not much more to be said, but what do I know?
