Anybody who posts something to the effect of "Oh? So, what are the politics of lawnmowers, Sett?" gets put on my nonexisting IL in perpetuity.

seeing as the voice of reason (ie what I want to happen) is drowned out by those evil dissenters (aka people who have a differing pov to my own) I will take that sage advice offered by many of you and IL the offending specimen.

Consider this a scientific experiment of sorts.  If I end up not caring if he is banned or neutered or made vice chancellor then the IL is truly the salve to all mans ills.

If not, then I want his address, a half gallon drum of that toxic waste from Robocop ("I'm melting! I'm melting!") and an alibi.

Except you're missing a bit. He didn't know that he'd poured shampoo in the gas tank. He didn't know what he'd done wrong. He could list the things that he'd done, but couldn't identify one or more of them as something that led to the failure, even after the fact.

Now, you could say that Cessna is not like that and that he does know where he went wrong. Fine. That's certainly a possibility.

But he hasn't fixed the mistakes. Up until yesterday, he was the RPGnet administrator. If he can point out what went wrong and doesn't do anything about it...

Personally, I think the scenario that makes sense isn't that he knows what's wrong and isn't choosing to fix it, but that he wants RPGnet to be better but doesn't know how to bring that about.

If that is true, I think we're better off looking for advice elsewhere.

Except, as far as I know, we didn't let him in. We don't bear any responsibility for his behavior or fixing it. He's a guy who wandered into the resturant, sat down, and is now picking his nose at the table. It's not the responibility of the other patrons to get him to stop or leave—that falls to the owner.

Personally, I think the site should continue as it is, basically moderation free. If people choose not to come here because of him, that's their choice. It's certainly a rational one, but not something we engendered.

See, it´s hard for me to do this.
But defending freedom is difficult, because you have to defend somebody who is of questionable repute. Like when defending the rights of convicted prisoners. They are convicted and bad, bad. Still, they have rights.

And I am indeed shocked by some stuff Nox said. But, honestly, he doesn´t come off as genuinely racist, or genuinely Neo-Nazi. I think in a trial, the evidence for demagoguery wouldn´t hold.
To put in in other words: He is a looney. But he´s a hateful looney uttering tribal statements , but are his statements really, really racist? Standing  textual proof?

See, sure, extremists can walk the lines, to avoid punishment in real life. But this is the cross a free society has to bear. Sure, they mock liberty by doing so. But that´s a thing that must beared. Or liberty itself collapses.

So:

There is nothing he said [that I know of] that is against a law in any western country I know of. Especially as he´s "just" rambling his own personal twisted ideas, not inciting other´s to actually do criminal stuff against the state or against minorities.


He shouldn´t be banned, until actual crimes are committed. For simplicity US law should be the standard, or Urugyayan or whatever.

See, there is a big difference between what shall be general law, and what should be social policy.

I vouch for a continued liberality of general site law but a very strict social policy.

Thanks to the advent of Ignore Lists and Self Control he's incredibly easy to ignore. All it requires is putting him on the list and then walking away from topics that get derailed because of him.

It doesn't take 3,000 people to ignore him, just the percentage of that group that can't keep their panties from bunching every time he opens his mouth and someone replies.
