This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So far as free speech goes, I think implicit in that is "Don't be an antagonistic shithead about it"; that's just taking advantage of the unwillingness of others to censor you. It's like filling your pockets with the mints on the secretary's desk. Sure, they're free for the taking, but that doesn't mean you should just do what you want with them. But then, my political stance would (and I think has) put a chill up the spine of most posters here, so I try to limit myself.

Is your complaint against Dominus Nox the "antagonistic shithead" (as you call it) way he expresses his views, or that he expresses them at all?

Christmas Ape

Nice, but I'm not biting.

Actually, the bulk of my problem is that his views are so ill-considered as to represent a bizarre satirical cartoon of a conservative, yet he's serious, and that he chooses to express those views rather than anything of value; that he is objectively wrong and misinformed, or has a view of world politics and events so myopic as to not extend any farther from his front porch than he can shoot a darkie, and that he simply doesn't care to be right. He's not interested in conversation, he's interested in conversion. I'm not interested in coming here to get yelled at by the internet equivalent of a right-wing college shock jock.

Also, it stirs up these absurd shitstorms in lieu of more interesting conversation, and I've got 8 hours at work this site has to amuse me through.

I consider it a cost-benefit issue. Would I rather have Nox, or the six hypothetical gamers who came by the site, saw his fucked-up repugnant shit, and clicked away forever? My vote is pretty clear, I think.

That is what it boils down to, isn't it.  Other websites have gone down that path; the founding ideology of this forum was a reaction against that idea.  You would throw all that away rather than simply ignore a single poster.

Quoteand that he chooses to express those views rather than anything of value

Factually untrue.  He makes many on-topic posts.

QuoteI'm not interested in coming here to get yelled at by the internet equivalent of a right-wing college shock jock.

You said he's on your ignore list.  So what the hell is the problem?

QuoteAlso, it stirs up these absurd shitstorms in lieu of more interesting conversation, and I've got 8 hours at work this site has to amuse me through.

If you aren't interested in threads like these, then why do you click on them?  Were you expecting something else from "Dominus Nox, I'm calling you out" or "Public Consultation: Racism/Genocide/Nox?"

kregmosier

i think he posts a few on-topic or "hey, here's question x.." threads for the sole reason of being able to point at them and all hurtfuly go "hey, i post about rpgs!!" after spouting out some impromptu racist bullshit.

screw all the hand-holding...either ban him, or ban the people who complain.

Quote from: Christmas ApeNone of the above.

Pre-emptive censorship is really not what's "done" here, as I understand the site, and a topic ban isn't going to work on anyone proud of having a dozen sockpuppets banned from one site.

Is there some reason we couldn't affix a word-replace to his account, so any of his hot-button words come out as awesome cartoons from the 80's?

"So, the Smurfofascists are at it again, and the "silent minority" of Thundercats who aren't extremists continue to do nothing. 's why I respect the Snorks more than Hollywood."

C'mon. That'd rule.

Or I can see if my fiancee's board-coding buddy can teach someone to Coventry him (so his posts appear to him and admins only).

We are not worthy! That is freaking brilliant!

:D

Added: I still voted to do nothing. I don't like censorship, and IMO his non-rpg posts are so loopy as to be just ridiculous rather than harmful.

Oh, lordy lordy lordy. "Throw all that away". Would you like to tell me how buying online will cause my roads to collapse and police and fire departments to go unstaffed, next? The mole is feeling a little lost in all that mountain. Please don't try to make the Nutkin folks giving Pundit the site with "Here, see if YOU can do any better" in response to his incessant bitching into some grand blue-and-orange face paint crusade for FREEEEDOMMMMMM!!!!!!!

I also never said anybody had to, or even should, listen to me. I'm responding to a request for consultation.
QuoteFactually untrue.  He makes many on-topic posts.
Which appear to be equal parts "I'd better talk about RPGs too, or Pundit actually will ban me" and a chance to snipe at other posters he doesn't like. I mean, he started a thread as revenge, because people were "ragging on GURPS". That is some absurd, juvenile shit. Don't you have to be at least 13 to register for websites?
QuoteYou said he's on your ignore list.  So what the hell is the problem?
Equal parts white-knuckled commitment to FREEEEDOMMMMMM in the face of idiocy, the Quote feature, and my own boredom, I'd say.

Because 8 hours is hard to kill with the post-an-hour going on in other forums overnight. I go where the conversation is, because at least it's something going on.

Also, because I happen to like this site and would like it to draw a greater variety of users. I want this thing bigger than all hell. I'd like to see a nascent program of supporting small-press regular-style RPGs, because games are awesome. I'd like to see a greater volume of conversation. And I happen to think that our very own Nox, proud to be a lawncrapper, is hurting us a lot more than the possible second violation of the "ZOMFG NO CENSORING" clause.

Don't ban the idiot. Just don't answer him in OT or in RPG forae when he starts with his idiotic diatribes.

Oh, and Nox, if you are so tired with the place, fuck off and go away. Easy peasy.

I have to say, this is one of the most interesting posts I've ever read in this forum from a human behavior perspective. Why?

Because all this time, I never considered Nox a right-wing nut job. In fact, I'd almost consider him the exact opposite. He's like some weird cross breed.

I do know he hates conservatives. And I'm pretty sure he believes that Republican=RWF (Right Wing Fascists). So I don't put him to the right.

So it's interesting to me that CA and I agree he's a horribly misinfomed fuctard, but we put him at different ends of the political spectrum. I wonder what that says about us...

Either way, even though I disagree with him vehemently, I voted to leave it alone.

Its been obvious to anyone paying attention that he's some kind of Frankenstein's Monster of Hate, because he's about as rabid in his hatred for Conservatives and Christians as he is of Liberals and Muslims. He's not a moving target, per se - he just seems so because he's got such a huge bile gland that he's everywhere at once. I think he might just be a true misanthrope, which I am sometimes myself - he's just making a career of it.

I told you guys before: Nox is one of the lumpenproletariat.

QuoteThe "dangerous class," the social scum, that passively rotting mass thrown off by the lowest layers of old society, may here and there be swept into the movement by a proletarian revolution; its conditions of life, however, prepare it far more for the part of a bribed tool of reactionary intrigue.

Nox feels vaguely that something is wrong, but will not, or can not, see into the systematic causes. He is a prey to demagoguery and yellow journalism aimed at him and millions like him. He is disenfranchised and disempowered, and rages blindly at the targets pointed out for him by cleverer people. In the 19th century he would have been part of the mob in the streets. In Hitler's Germany he would have been smashing Jewish shop-windows. Here and now he regurgitates propaganda about Muslims and the rhetoric of populism.

Kill the off-topic forum, Pundy.

See, Nox is nothing. A non-issue. But the shit will really hit the fan once the Tangency cesspool will spit out three or four slightly more reasonable-sounding versions of him.

Why do you think no major RPG board repeated rpg.net's mistake of allowing a full-blown off-topic forum? They either have none, or severely truncated versions. No politics.

Or he could be a protestor at a WTO slash & burn "anarchist" protest for that matter. He reviles Big (Insert business name here) as well.

Hell - he seems to hate most everything, near as I can tell.

Leave it as is. If we're going to ban Nox for being a shithead, we also have to ban JimBob for being too preachy, Koltar for being too sucky-uppy, Pundit for being too ranty, and me for being too inclined to want people to shut the hell up.

Nox obviously wants a ban. His first post in this thread shouts "Please ban me you retards!" He'snot worth it though. If someone is deserving of breaking the free speech ethic we have here, at least make sure it's someone worthwhile. Nobody listens to him. Nobody agrees with his insanity.

At his best he spurs decent RPG topics, and even his inane political rants can spark good threads. At worst he gives the site a chance to make readers think "wow, did you see how quickly the intelligent people told that racist idiot to shut up?"
