SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Public Consultation: Nox & Nox-bashing Threads

I don't respond to any threads about rpgs or otherwise that Nox creates. I mean why should I ? This guy supports an org that in the best case scenario thinks my family and me are inferior or the worst, would do us harm.

He talks shit about Islam when I come from a Muslim country and count some of the faithfull amongst my best friends...not taking into account, those who are a part of my extended family. So, you'd forgive me, if I don't really think fuckin' rpgs should be fuckin' common ground.

There are two types of vile people in this world. Those who remain symptoms because they don't have the balls to become a disease. Nox is off course the former. But, I don't think he should be banned. And biased as I am, I don't think folks should be stopped from pissing on him - truthfully this makes me happy, knowing there are others users who find his ideas as vile as I do. But...

This is not doing the board any good so, I hope folks stop creating all these shitting on Nox threads. As for the poll, use my vote any way you see fit.

Regards,
David R

I think JimBob has a good point. As an RPG forum, off-topic talk doesn't have to be a right, and if in the big picture, after some time has passed, someone can't behave themselves there, then they should be denied the privilege.

If such a thing is possible.

If not, then it's better to just leave things as they are.

Either do nothing, or merge the threads to clean up the amount of space they take on the forum.

Banning Nox because some people don't like his political opinions has no merit whatsoever.  Banning him for being rude, etc. would be clearly unfair unless you ban everyone who's rude, etc., and on this board, that would leave it with maybe three posters.

Deleting the threads is a possible course of action, but that leaves you having to make the invariably subjective decision of when a personal attack is warranted and when it's vapid, and I don't see any payoff for introducing that kind of subjectivity that's worth its price.  It's not actually going to change Nox's social position as the guest of honor at the feeding frenzy to remove the attacks from the view, and Nox's social position changing is the only thing that can end them, short of his leaving.

Making blatant attacks disappear won't stop the attacks: it will encourage people to make them in less clear and obvious form.  It will encourage people to move more attacks into roleplaying discussions, thus decreasing the chance that those discussions will address roleplaying issue in a useful manner; and it will encourage people to adopt that surface-polite-actually-snide-or-baiting style that's so common on RPGnet and other forums which attempt to moderate flamewars.

I'm not fond of flamewars and open personal attacks, but I really, really hate enforced fake-politeness.  It makes it much harder to tell who's actually worth cultivating an acquaintance with.  So I prefer venues where people can openly hate each other's guts if that's how they really feel.

I agree we should merge our "Fuck DN!" threads.  We already have "JimBob is a Cunt", so it'll have company and everything.

I put him on my Ignore list here a few weeks back, so what he posts about RPGs / Games / KKK Love isn't a huge concern of mine. I might be missing some gems he posts about RPGs but quite frankly I doubt it. (Plus like David R, I have no desire to associate with people like Nox in a forum no matter what it's dedicated to)

However the number of threads devolving into Noxbashing (either through his own threadcrapping or otherwise) is IMO detrimental to the site.

I agree with Jimbob - ban him from the Off-Topic forums. And lay the Smackdown of Righteous Moderator Anger on him if he starts spouting off elsewhere.

Oh yeah and banning personal attacks? No thanks. I'd rather risk a lifetime in psychotherapy for someone calling me an idiot than unleash RPGNet style moderation on here.

Okay, I have two ideas, but they both might require modifications to the forum software. The first is to simply stop the Off Topic forum from being searched when someone clicks on the New Posts link.

The second is to create a "sink" functionality similar to what's available in software behind story-games. Essentially, if a mod "sinks" a thread, it isn't locked, but it's "last updated" flag is frozen, so it sinks down the forum list over time.

Somebody might call either of those censorship but I could live with it. I think it's too early for either change, though. Other avenues (including this thread) should be given a chance.

I saw that one in action. They used it to bury threads about theRPGsite and RPGnet.

I would ban the ant-nox threads as they are just crap attacks but I would like to retain the right to point out the flaws in his beliefs whe he decides to post them.

Otherwise he has posted a couple more RPG related threads which is more than I have done so I'd see how it goes.

Here.  I don't have a link to the RPGnet thread, but it was around that time, so it shouldn't be hard to find (mid-January, probably).

My guess is that Andy K or another Mod decided that both threads were not going anywhere, and rather than locking them they used the "sink" option.

Dr Rotwang!

I vote "No" on Nox Attack Threads.

Look, I may have a low opinion of the dude, but frankly, I'd rather show it by not giving him any attention.  Let him jerk around like a spazz all day long; he's got more than enough rope.

I think it's important to think about what's good for the site.  Me, I've got Nox on IL so he personally doesn't bug me anymore.

However, these personal attack threads (and let's be honest, they're not just Nox-bashing threads) are...  unsightly.  One can just skip them, but they look like a bunch of hyena attacks or lone wolf hamstringings.

As an RPG site, I'd like to talk about RPGs, not get involved in "pile on the omega" parties.

That said, if Nox is actually lowering the quality of discussion in general or actively disrupting the site, I say kick him.  That's what bans should be for.

I voted to not do anyting official, to either Nox or to the anti-Nox threads.  I think this thread addresses the situation as necessary.  The treatment of Nox -- actively baiting him and drawing out his ugliness -- is getting out of hand.  Those of us who disagree with his ugliness should have to common sense and decency to stop it of our own accord with no more than a reminder -- myself included, of course.  If he volunteers his hateful shit, then he's fair game, and even then a simple STFU should suffice.
