Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Dr Rotwang!

So --

-- I can post, but after I click "submit", my browser just hangs...and hangs...and hangs.

Meanwhile my post hits the forum -I guess-, but I never get taken to it.  I have to stop my browser and go to the thread.

Whaaaa....?

EDIT: EXCEPT, OF COURSE, FOR THIS TIME.

I'm getting the same problems this morning, except I don't have the good luck of getting it to work like Dr. Rotwang! did.
"Meh."

Koltar

I get that probem 4 or 5 times at week.

Always thought it was just my computer or ISP being slow or having traffic issues.

Had this happen as well. Once I had a warning about a script failing but no details beyond that.

People, if you get a specific error warning that does not indicate that it was already passed on to tech staff, please use the contact form to report it. Provide details on the page you were trying to load and paste the error text.

I'll try to start doing so. For the last several weeks, I've had constant posting problems, including the one described above, as well as various database errors. Actually, I'll go so far as to say this has been the most problematic site I deal with regularly, being constantly either very slow, or down completely. I'll start trying to do my part to help.

Yeah, in fact, it just did it. What's happening is that you submit your post, the site takes it [i.e. the information is injected into the database], but it takes so long to re-load your page that the posting times out and tries again; when it does this [you have to wait a few minutes] you get the infamous "Dude, you have to wait 30 seconds between posts" message, only to visit the thread and find it's posted, anyway. This happens many times a day for me, although the server has its up days and down days.

In any case, it's server lag, whether in database server response time or major network congestion. I'd keep a close eye on your host's reports for a while, latencies and utilizations in particular.

One question I have - and I'm trying to phrase this as delicately as I can - is whether or not anything will be done about these reports. There's a record of site problems going back a couple of months now, and I've seen a lot of users posting errors and making suggestions, but obviously we're not privy to what happens after that.

I also don't want to be posting error reports whenever I have some problem with the site if it's going to just be irritating to the administration; a lot of the replies I've seen from Brett haven't exactly been encouraging of users sending errors or giving suggestions, and I don't want to be in the position of putting in effort to help out if what I'm actually doing is just being annoying.

Sure.  I can share with you some of the things that have been done.

Because of the recent outages, Brett switched theRPGSite to a different hosting option with the same company.  This turned out to be worse, and Brett switched the site back until the hosting company corrected some misconfigured settings.

It seems somewhat better now, but if the problems persist/return we will be looking for a different hosting company.
