This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I'm considering the following policy changes and would like an informal weighing in by the community on whether these should be allowed.

1) As a reward for their work, PbP Gamemasters would be granted 150x150 avatars and 400 message PM boxes as an admin has.

2) Alt id accounts for characters in PbP would have 150x150 avatars, but wouldn't be able to post outside the Pbp forum.

This is sort of a sideways answer, so forgive me up front.

I really really like the idea of somehow allowing alt accounts so that people who post to their PbP games are allowed to post in character, have an avatar that perhaps resembles their character, etc.

I don't know whether its important (or possible) to tie those accounts to a poster's main account, but it would be nice to think that someone's participation in a PbP game counts as participation on the board more generally.

Sorry, one more thing.

For me, whether I have space for 100 or 400 PMs is pretty much irrelevant.  I don't get that many PMs and even when I was getting them, I am pretty organized, deleting the ones I don't need.

It's not that I wouldn't take a larger inbox, but it doesn't change the calculus of the deal one way or the other for me.

Hope that didn't sound negative. :)

I am guessing here, but I'm wondering if the larger inbox is, instead of a reward, intended to help you run your game easier.

If you are running a PbP, you may end up with a lot of PMs that you don't want to delete, to help you keep track of what's going on with characters in your game. Just a thought. I don't want to sound negative either. :)

I think they are both good ideas.

Very good idea and as obvious as it seems now, one that I didn't think of. :D

Problem with having the PbP count towards your post counts is that it punishes anyone who is not in a game.  So I'm against it.  As not everyone is going to want to play in a game.

And the opposite solution doesn't count the contributions of people who are playing in a game.

Honestly, I don't care.  I just enjoy participating on the board and hanging out with other members.  I don't care about big avatars or the ability to give rep or all the other bells and whistles that were implemented as part of what I understood to be a game.

My hope is that people aren't beginning to take that kind of stuff seriously, but I have a sense that I'm wrong.

That's exactly the thought with the larger size PM box - did you read my mind? If so I hope you're not too confused - changeling brains and especially pooka brains are incredibly dangerous to the unprepared.

This, I know from first hand experience. Telepathy with fey is the equivalent of binge-drinking for us mentalists.

They sould like great ideas to me, and I don't think the PbP character accounts need to have their post counts count towards the "main" account.  That's just silly.

Playing in a PbP is its own reward.

OK...clearly I am in the minority on this one then.  I guess I just have a different outlook on this and what I thought the board was about.

How am I "bashing"?  I simply said that I had a different understanding of what I understood the board was to be about and this thread has made me change my perspective.

I didn't call anyone out or label anything.  I just said that it was now clear to me that I was in the minority.

Quit looking for drama where there clearly is none.  I don't have any problems with the board and I don't have any problems with any of the posters here and I have never said as much.

Like I said before, however Pooka and Co. want to do things is fine...I don't really care as I thought the whole leveling up thing was designed as a game.  I just thought all your posts should count, but if the majority of folks don't see it that way, that is more than fine with me.

It's a just a fuckin' messageboard...

Hold on, hold on...  Isn't posting in a game participation on the board? Well, uhm, according to the fishmonger it is, though I think his opinion is bunk who am I to judge.

What is the board about?  Isn't it about
  • FUN!!![/o][/size]

Now, with that out of the way - In about two years I should have a hack developed that will allow alternate id's used for in character posts to be merged with their parent accounts and allow the users to switch between them freely in the PbP forum.  Can you forgive me that in the meanwhile though you'll have to make do with the accounts being seperate and what that entails?
