SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Ok - Here's the Deal - the Pundit's Greatest Challenge.

Ultimately, what it comes down to is that I will post where I get replies. I know it's a viscous cycle, but when I started posting here and getting 0 or 1 replies over the next few days, I didn't feel like bothering to visit.

Likewise, there weren't any new threads that interested me, so I felt no urge to post or reply to anything at all.

Your biggest challange, Pundit, will be getting enough people here all at the same time up front, posting and replying to posts, for people to feel that they're not wasting their time coming here.

Your second biggest challange is making sure these people are having conversations that other people want to read. I know you're proud of the Pistols at Dawn thread, and to be honest there is some interesting stuff in there, but your average gamer doesn't want to read shit like that.
Next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways, it's still rock and roll to me.

You can talk all you want about theory, craft, or whatever. But in the end, it's still just new ways of looking at people playing make-believe and having a good time with their friends. Intellectualize or analyze all you want, but we've been playing the same game since we were 2 years old. We just have shinier books, spend more money, and use bigger words now.

And really, I think the collaborative project section is one of the most niftily conceived woefully underutilized parts of the site. Discussion is all well and good, but this site also has the potential to be a resource.

@resource:
There is one single thing, where RPG.Net is useful and superiour to all others:
The reviews.

You search for a review on google, and surely enough RPG.Net will come up at the top.

And there are several per game, so there is a variety that is hard to find in the discussions.

Judas, how would you imagine it being used? And what would have to be done to get it there?

Some of the easier uses would be of course d20 projects like the featbook, or possible class collections, etc.

I could also see books dedicated to system-neutral sidetreks for various genres, a book of NPCs (possibly system dependent but it doesn't have to be). Interesting locations detailed out and sorted by genre. Just sort of drag-and-drop content for people to use. If you can foster community interest in things like that, it could be a tremendous resource for people looking to spice up their games.

Probably a good way to get the ball rolling would be to go to the people that post storyhours here. Have them post writeups for locations and NPCs from their storyhours as articles under the collaborative works books, assuming such things wouldn't spoil their players. If you give them enough lead-time to avoid spoilers, it'd start to build a good base of articles people can mine for their games.

It is done.  The Nutkins are gone - and RPGPundit is now an admin.

Well RPG Pundit, I sincerely hope this works out for you and all of us. I was very disappointed when I heard of the demise of this site and I'm glad that it is back, and under inspired, energetic leadership. I don't post here much, but I really enjoy this site. If there's anything I can do to help, I'll be here.

Very good ideas here, Judas. How would you like to take charge of all that?

Alas, I am an armchair admin until I find more time. Work's been hectic, and I turned down a news editor position from Pooka several months ago as well. I would be more than happy to contribute to such an endeavor as time permits though, and may end up starting up the d20 class netbook with another revision of my shaman homebrew. I could also probably start up a few of the systems-neutral books and start contributing to them immediately.

Theory being that once stuff starts to appear there, people will be encouraged.

I haven't browsed the story hours enough yet to know who to contact and nudge, sadly.

I think there are enough people out there that want to see this forum fail, but stupidly Im sure they want it to fail for all the wrong reasons.

Instead of getting what WE want, by having our own forum, it is up to us to make this the forum we have been craving for, for some time. So instead of celebrating, not the work begins.

Hats off to the squirrels for being true to their word, and to the pundit for taking up the rein of a precarious beast indeed.

I don't know who would want the board to fail, that's just stupid.  What I do think is that there are people out there that wonder if Pundit is capable of running a board that will be a place worth coming to.  Only time will tell.

Quoted for truth.

I've said it before and will again, even at the worst this will have been an interesting experiment. (and for myself I'd enjoy it being around for quite awhile)

Pundit, was the collaborative gig you and Judus were talking about, is that like the wiki of D20 open game content that you had talked about the concept of in your blog awhile back?
"Dr.Who and CoC are, on the level of what the characters in it do, unbelievably freaking similar. The main difference is that in Dr. Who, Nyarlathotep is on your side, in the form of the Doctor."

Take care Nothingland. You were always one of the most ridiculously good-looking sites on the internets, and the web too. I\'ll miss you.  -"Derek Zoolander MD" at a site long gone.

el-remmen would be a good place to start, I think. He's got a lot of material "ready to go" as it were.
