This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

NPC contest?

So I've noticed the NPC contest is still front & center, but it doesn't seem like anything happened with it for 3 months.

I didn't enter or anything, but have there been any results?

I dunno - Gunhilda and the squirrels where running it.

I am going to make some changes to the way things are ran around here next month - and it's time to gather some input.

1) I'm thinking strongly of setting all members loose with the power to moderate the front page. What this will mean is you vote for news items you like and dislike. When an item gains enough votes it goes front page and gets to stay there for awhile. If it gets to many thumbs down votes it can be knocked down entirely.  It's a thought.

I have been working on something game related this summer. I'll be releasing it around August 31

It's been over for months, but there hasn't really been anything else that's been going on. Gunhilda tried to do a demon contest and had about as much response as I did.

The problem is that there doesn't seem to be much interest in the idea, so it's not worth pursuing right now.

Back when I was one of the people in charge of the Middle Earth d20 site at EN World, we ran a NPC contest also, to drum up traffic to the site. We got a number of cool entries, but it seemed that traffic to the site dropped off the table immediately afterwards. This was going right around the time the movies were still being released. Decipher released it's Lord of the Rings RPG, and that pretty much hammered the last nail in the coffin for that site - traffic slowed to pretty much nothing. Every few months somebody would email me about this or that about he site, but that only happened 3-4 times.

So I can sympathize.

4e definitely has an Old School feel. If you disagree, cool. I won't throw any hyperbole out to prove the point.

The site isn't *dead* it's just slowed to a trickle.  As long as someone is having fun with it I'll leave it up.

I know it's not dead - I've been making some effort to help keep it alive. But traffic has sure slowed down. That's too bad. Many of the discussions have been vigorous and enlightening.
