This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Norton Dark Web warning
« on: April 12, 2021, 01:07:34 PM »
Sorry if it's old news (though I just got the notification this morning for a February? breach): I know, change passwords, but just to be safe, wanted to give you a heads up.

What We Found
Activity
Potential Exposure of Your Data
Impacted Website
therpgsite.com
Description
The site therpgsite.com has been reported in February 2021 to possibly have suffered a data exposure that could include 7,278 records
Exposed Information
info_outline
Email
[I redacted this]
Additional Exposed Information
info_outline
Username, Password, IP Address-32 Bit, Gamertag
What is this Dark Web notification and why are you receiving this?
info_outline
The exposed information is potentially associated with the website/service therpgsite.com.
In the past you may have signed up for therpgsite.com, or provided the information to a service that is in some way associated with therpgsite.com. It may be difficult for you to remember, or you simply may not know other services are associated with therpgsite.com. What is important to know is that information belonging to you appears as if it is being shared improperly on the dark web.
Exposed information from data breaches, hacking incidents, or leaked information can be bought and sold on the dark web as “lists”. The buying and selling activity by identity thieves may occur months to years after it is actually exposed in a security incident.
Even though you may have stopped using therpgsite.com, or perhaps deactivated the account, or maybe unsubscribed, the information could still be available in their systems.
What can you do next?
Being proactive with best practices and next steps such as the following can help:
·
If your notification mentions an email, change the password associated with it. It has been exposed.
·
If your notification mentions an affected website, do also change the password to it, or to any other site where you’ve used the password.
·
Choose a new, unique, and strong password for each individual site you use. Don't use the same password each time.
·
Review your credit reports and watch for new credit inquiry alerts or suspicious activity. Consider freezing your credit file.
·
Visit our Dark Web Monitoring Support Article for a full list of other helpful tips and guidance.
We’re here to help. We continuously scan the dark web to monitor for your information and notify you if we find any.

From what I understand, Norton, Lifelock, and other systems that Dark Web scan for people selling passwords to sites have popped up theRPGSite as being advertised.  I haven’t looked into it though, just changed my password.  The password was unique, so not worried anyway.

My email address was gathered in this, but no evidence that my password was from this site.
Received an "email change" notification for some MMORPG that I don't play; the original email was from this site.
So...

Disappointing that the email was found somehow, but I can change it on this site and redirect future emails to that now "public" email to a spam filter.
