This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Can we have the Thread Tools enabled for the person starting a thread?  It would be useful to be able to split posts from a thread into a new thread to prevent derailing.

That could be pretty abusable.

Yeah, I can see how that would be cool if we assume good will, but in practice it can be used to censor.

I think it's better to just politely ask someone to start a new thread, and if they agree, then they do so.

I could picture some folks spawning new threads when a topic of theirs didn't go exactly as they planned, under the umbrella of "it was off topic."

I would spawn a "Hackmaster: Threat or Menace" thread for your (James) and Pundit's debate on the subject to prevent a total derail of the thread on Competitive Play. :)

He already spawned one. Sorry, I'll try to keep my HM talk limited to that one, copying stuff over if needbe.

Little did I know what would happen when I mentioned a game. :)

I don't think I want that level of slicing and dicing of threads.  I don't think its a good idea to derail a thread, and I strongly suggest that anytime a tangency comes up, people should spawn a spinoff thread; likewise, I don't think that there's anything wrong with an original-poster starting a new thread rephrasing his original issue if he thinks that his first thread has become hopelessly rerouted.

And if it is necessary, I think that's pretty much what a good moderator job is supposed to be.

Out of curiosity, does post #8 in this thread belong to Pundit? It seems he's gone invisible to me all the sudden and I'm wondering if he's put me on some sort of forced ignore thing.
