SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

it wasn't anyone offensive, just someone who doesn't add anything to conversations.  i tried going through the user cp, but it wouldn't recognize the individual's name.  i was finally able to do the deed by going through his personal profile and clicking "add to IL."

is this my incompetence, or just a quirk of the system?

arminius

Quirk of the system. It's been reported before. Maybe it has something to do with capitalization? Just a guess.

beeber

that's what i thought.  i even fooled around with caps (on/off) but to no avail.

thanks for the prev. heads up stuff too

edit:  but since everything really does work, i have no complaints.  just making an observation

For some reason this site's version does seem to be case sensitive when it comes to usernames.  I've found that to be the case in searches by username, for instance.

It's odd to me, because most of the vB sites of used aren't case sensitive when it comes to usernames, not even for logging on.

I've tried looking into, but I'm baffled myself. The search doesn't seem to be working all that well.

In Searches, it is case sensitive.

In Ignore Listing, ANY NAME with a "space" in it cannot be ignored except by going to their account page and clicking it there.

Frex: If you try to ignore me "Andy K", it won't find me. You have to click on my icon, to go to my profile, then you can ignore me by clicking the Ignore User link.

For two weeks I had an announcement on the top of the board for people to report search problems, but I received no reports.  I've never been able to verify that there's an actual problem with search rather than people mistyping things.  Can you tell me exactly what the search terms were and what options you used?

If I go right now to the search page, and type anything other than "J Arcane" exactly, down to the exact case, it tells me it's an invalid user.  No "j arcane" or "J arcane" or anything like that.

IME this is not the case with most vBulletin boards.  RPGnet wasn't like that, prior to the search going down for good and being replaced by a piece of crap that is.  SJGames wasn't like that.  I suspect there's probably a disused switch or option somewhere that tells it whether to be case sensitive or not.

that's what happened for me.  i just tried it again, but with J Arcane as an example.  i went into my buddy/ignore list, entered his name exactly, case-sensitive.  it came back as all lower-case, user not found.
