SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I am not a sockpuppet

Quote from: Serious Paul;228178Three people share my IP address, since I have a network with three peoples machines hooked up to it. All three of us have an account here. Soon there will be a fourth computer on the network, and as my group comes over as many as seven people accessing this site from my IP.

So if one them calls you a name Pundit, everyone gets banned?

If everyone else suspiciously shares many of the same qualities as the guy who caused the original offense, comes from the same website where the incitement to cause the disruption originated, and adds a sig indicating that he's intending on prolonging said disruption, yes.

I also share my IP with a couple of people.
Furthermore, how do you see a connection between someone who says "he this is my new account, I can't use the others for this reason, please sort it out" and the rpgdouchetard who basically ignored inquiries as to his former accounts.
"They share the same opinion" and "use the same arguments" is a very poor proof or should we in the future hold all trad players responsible for the shit you and sett are spouting? Or all indie players for the shit ron edwards has spouted in the past? Oh... I forgot you do that already.

Move on, move on... im Gleichschritt.

Quote from: Engine;228159Even identical IPs don't guarantee such a thing

Even fingerprints and video evidence of him making the posts wouldn't absolutely guarantee it.  He might have an identical twin who impersonates him and posts from his computer while he's asleep.

However, as the preponderance of evidence would lead a reasonable person to believe that he is a sockpuppet, I fully back RPGPundit's decision.

When someone blames his posts on an evil roommate, there's no way for an outsider to tell whether there are actually other people posting from the same house, or if the person is simply lying.

If it's really that important to you, I would suggest you ask the other people you share a modem with not to be douchebags and get you banned from online forums and games.

Crazy Elf

So wait a moment... you said you banned RPGdouchetard for being a sock puppet, but now you're saying that Mike is banned for having posted from the same IP as RPGdouchetard? So if you have one sock puppet all your accounts are banned?

RPGPundit

If you don't own up to it, yes.
Note that if you do own up to it (assuming there was some kind of good reason for you to have had two accounts, and it wasn't just to disrupt the site), then no, usually only one of the accounts will be "banned".

So, you do speak for the reasonable persons? I always thought reasonable persons know that twins don't share the same fingerprints.

True! Hey, do you think I could get back on rpg.net that way? "Dear Eric, it wasn't me, it was my evil roomie."

Unless he moves in with a moderator, then they can't IP ban him without banning themselves. Hey, it worked for Curt on rpg.net :p

Actually, there's only one piece of evidence that supports that theory: his IP, which every single person here is aware does not identify a user.
When you\'re a bankrupt ideology pursuing a bankrupt strategy, the only move you\'ve got is the dick one.

This is not true.  It depends on your setup, even in a shared hosting environment.

If you want to say it was you, just do it and get it over with...

Nicephorus

Without going too much into personal information, I highly doubt that it was Engine as he and Mike live in separate states.

YEs, that's precisely what I mean: it cannot identify a user, because whether your IP is used by one person or by dozens depends on your setup. IPs cannot be used to identify individual users.

Mike and I do not share IPs. Or time zones. ;) I'm not part of any Animalball conspiracies or pranks, either, nor am I privy to the content of their podcasts, nor do I regularly read or post to their forum. If you've any other suspicions of me, please feel free to air them, and I will do all I can to confirm those which are true and to assuage those concerns as I may.

With 1,762 posts I'd say you're a regular poster there.

Engine

Well, I would say I "used to be" a regular poster there, but rather than waste time defining "what the meaning of the word 'is' is," some numbers: in the last four months, I've made 1000+ posts here, and fewer than 40 there. If you'd like more detail about why I post here and [generally] don't post there, I can certainly provide it [and with links, too!] but the upshot is that a lot of people there weren't crazy with regards to my verbosity, amongst my many other crippling personality traits.
