This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Hi. I posted a message about kickstarter funding earlier, but it appears to have been deleted. I initially posted it in the Design & Gameplay forum, or thought I had, then looked and found it wasn't there. I assumed I'd just not posted it after all and then thought wait a minute maybe it would be better in the News and Adverts forum. So I posted it there and... So what exactly is the problem? I guess it might have come across as shilling or some such. If this is the case, apologies, and I'll try to re-phrase it to make it more acceptible :)

Ok, I've just seen this sticky on the subject of News/Adverts posts. So my post didn't fit there. But what about in Design & Gameplay, why wasn't it appropriate there? Or is it that you don't accept posts that mention kickstarter for some reason?

Not trying to be obstructive, just want to know what I've done wrong.

I don't know anything about this, nor can I see any of the posts you mentioned (I ought to, since admins can see deleted posts, unless the mod who deleted it wiped it out completely or something).

Do you remember what the title of these threads were?

Thanks for getting back to me. The title was Kick-a-man-when-he's-down-starter, and the text was as follows:

Quote from: catty_bigOk, so my new game is set in a frat house in a college in New England, specifically Connecticut. I was musing the other day how cool it would be to run some games of it around the likely publication date of December this year. I checked on the Internet and found that not only is there a con taking place then, from Dec 7-9th, but it's actually in Connecticut, Stamford to be exact. How cool is that?! Ah, but hang on, can I afford to go? Cheapest flight currently £586, cheapest hotel £165 (which is pretty cheap, but still) plus incidental expenses, like beer and, uh, beer. Maybe also some beer. So that's a no then. Unless... How would folks feel about a Kickstarter campaign to fund this trip, with a target of say £1'000 ($1'500). Would folks go for that? And, if so, what rewards would you expect (apart from a copy of the book, I'm assuming that to be a given)?
I'm guessing it was considered shilling.

It didn't look like news. Sorry.

No, fair enough. It's often difficult to find the right forum to post stuff, hence me posting my Hello message in Design & Gameplay, given that I'm a designer, sort of. Where would be the best place to post it, do you think? Happy to fit in with the organisational architecture, important as it is for a site like this not to become a sprawling mass of rag-bag comments.

Think I'll stick it in Design & Gameplay; after all, how to secure funding for a project is kind of design-related.

That would seem proper to me, yes.

Announcements and the like usually go in News, while talking about putting together a game (including the publishing process) could generally go in Design.
